Cardia is a woman with a “unique” condition. Anything her skin touches will either melt or rot. She has been living in seclusion outside of Victorian era London for over two years when the Royal Guards came to bring her in. She is then rescued by a legendary gentleman thief, Arsène Lupin.
Since most of Code:Realize's characters are based on c.19th century literature, Cardia might be based on Beatrice from Nathaniel Hawthorne's 1844 story "Rappaccini's Daughter". Beatrice is the poisonous but innocent daughter of a researcher, and falls in love with a regular man who seeks to cure her poison. Contact with her skin or breath is dangerous and is shown to kill plants and insects. Every single male in Beatrice's story is ultimately a jerk, and her last speech accuses the man she "fell in love with" of always having more poison in his nature than ever there was in hers, because his was of the spirit and hers was only physical. Her father even blames her, remarking that she should have delighted in being feared and being dangerous rather than making herself a victim of men... despite the fact he made her a victim of a man.
