Today is the big day! Officially the awards will be announced at BGG.con early this evening but in an effort to spread out the announcements on Twitter and such, I'm announcing the RPG side throughout the day.

We have a slim and trim 4 categories this year - down from 5 last year. I'm hugely in favor of this trim-down as it allows for us to concentrate on the very best of the best. Best Podcast, Best Supplement, Best Production Values and, of course, Best Game. There is no 'Best Sourcebook to Feature Cave Trolls in Tropical Environments'.

The list of nominees showcased some of the finest RPG material on the planet. The finalists narrowed that field down to an awesome 3 entries per category. And now, we have the cream of the 2011 crop.

We proudly present the RPG GoldenGeek Winners!

2011 GoldenGeek for Best Roleplaying Game
mb Apocalypse World
Vincent Baker comes through again with a groundbreaking take on post apocalyptic world building and excellent social mechanics. This has been rising up the rankings on RPG geek all year and it well deserves the top honors for the best RPG of 2011!

You can send a congratulations tweet to @lumpleygames

2011 GoldenGeek for Best Podcast

mb The Walking Eye Podcast

The Walking Eye was a runner-up last year and this year made the top marks. It's a wonderful 'cast led by Kevin and Jen. You can stream it live here at the Geek (just click on the Walking Eye Podcast link in this post) and give it a listen.

You can send a congratulations tweet to @TheWalkingEye

2011 RPG GoldenGeek for Best Artwork & Presentation

mb Mouse Guard Roleplaying Game Box Set

Luke Crane's hugely popular Mouse Guard RPG came out in a new Box Set format this year which has the main rules in softcover accompanied by character sheets, GM sheets, a GM Screen, 5 mouse tokens, an adventure and 10 custom Mouse Guard dice. Fantastic production indeed!

You can send a congratulations tweet to @Burning_Luke and @mouseguard

2011 GoldenGeek for Best Supplement

mb Bookhounds of London

Trail of Cthulhu has been pushing out high quality supplements since its release in 2008. For the goldengeeks this year, we had two ToC supplements in the final three - the odds were certianly stacked in favor for designers Steve Dempsey and Ken Hite!

You can send a congratulations tweet to @kennethhite and @gb_steve

If you want to follow the excitement generated on Twitter, you can do so by using this search. Please feel free to congratulate the winners!

Anyone directly associated with the 2011 winners (designers, publishers, production staffers, artists, etc) can get a free mb - 2011 Golden Geek Winner microbadge. Just send me a geekmail!

Winners are also free to use this official logo on their websites, etc.

Thanks to everyone that took the time to help in the nominations and voting. We've done an outstanding job!

-Dave

Nearly all my top choices won, and everybody that came out on top is an excellent choice. cool Congratulations!

@Brian - I like the Walking Eye podcast a lot but I would skip the actual play episodes - I personally found they're painfully boring to listen to. I would highly recommend another nominee as well: ActuL people, actual play is amongst my favorite podcasts at the moment.

On the contrary, if I'm prepping to run a new game, I find the Walking Eye AP episodes to be great for picking up the flow and feel of the rules and GM duties. Interview episodes are my favorite though.

At least some of the plaudits should go to @mouseguard, aka David Petersen (the artist).

By the way, is the artwork in the Mouse Guard box set substantially different from the hardback edition?

The rulebook is the same - but this has lots of lavishly illustrated cards, some very cool dice, a new character sheet, and a booklet of new rules.
