On August 22, 2015, the Geek Citizenship Recognition initiative was launched. It was the last major initiative I ran for the community and it's the only one I still handle today. Over the past few years, we have gifted more than 9500 stars to Geeks of every walk of life. This is done manually by the star gifters and admins - as you can imagine, this involves quite a bit of work... but we love doing it!

The Star Program is a way for people to recognize fellow geeks for their contribution to the site. We think of these stars as a kind of Uber Thumb for folks you really enjoy here on the site for any reason. It's a simple way to show someone that our community is stronger for having them around.

Please join us in recognizing BGG, RPGG, and VGG members whose participation you value. This is an anonymous award - there is no telling who you nominated (especially not the receiver). However, we've found that the star givers are equally thrilled to have gifted a star as someone is to receive them. The star-givers are their own special kind of awesome... like anti-thugs who do random acts of kindness secretly.

The very simple rules of gifting appear on our master thread here:
Geek Citizenship Recognition

The five recognition levels are:

mb - Level I - One small step for geek... One giant leap for geek-kind!
mb - Level II - If I have seen further, it's only by standing on the apex of other's dice.
mb - Level III - Are we geeks because we gaze at the stars, or do we gaze at them because we are geeks?
mb - Level IV - The journey of a thousand crits begins with a single roll...
mb - Level V - My God! It's Full of Stars!

Back in 2017, to celebrate the 2 year anniversary of this program, we created a special free microbadge that you can get just by asking:

mb - The Geek Citizenship Recognition Program Rolls On!

And in anticipation of hitting 10,000 Stars this month, we are now gifting a second free microbage for the program:

mb - One does not simply recognize great geeks. Not with 10,000 stars could you do this...

If you would like either of these free microbages, just post below... but don't forget to gift a star for February and help us get to our big 10k threshold!

Oh! And please feel free to wear your stars proudly this month... a little extra light on our world never hurts!

This is a great program, and I still remember receiving my first star! It was such a thrill, and each subsequent star brought a smile. I don’t always remember to gift a star, but I do enjoy doing it; the smiles just keep rippling out.

I may not always be the most vocal geek, but I've been fortunate enough to receive a star. In turn, I try to give my monthly stars out to those geeks who (like me) contribute in their own unique ways.

I'd love the newest star microbadge, if possible.

Thank you for continuing this program, Dave! And a huge thanks to everyone who hands out stars each month. Little acts of kindness often make the biggest difference, and this is such a wonderful way to recognize someone anonymously!

I remember the thrill and honor of receiving my stars, and I always enjoy sending out one each month. These kind acts add up and can help make someone's day that much brighter!
