Let's take a look at what "would have happened" in 2013 if we had an e.g. 10 year old clause then - games published after 2003 would not be valid.

The winner was GURPS

In 2013, surely the common person at the game table would assume that "GURPS" would include GURPS (4th Edition).

??? I don't think you understand what is meant by Family rather than Edition. We would be going by GURPS which was first published in the '80s, not by the latest edition.

Right, you would give the GLAIR to everything in the winning family, not everything in the family that meets the ten year limit. The ten year minimum just means ONE game in the family must be at least ten years old.

Champions (or HERO - whatever makes the most sense for the awards)

Champions made it to the final eight so was already nominated. Does anyone know whether we should replace it with HERO or leave as is?

I think it should stay as Champions. I'm a serious fanboy but I think Champions is more deserving than Hero System.

I do. But in the database, RPG Honors cannot be assigned to families, only to RPG and RPG Items. So when a family like "GURPS" wins, the actual database linking happens at the RPG level.

Well, fix the database.

I can't believe no one nominated the most popular RPG of all time (before the 10-year release limitation was added):

Please note that the 10-year limit is NOT OFFICIAL as of right now. Waiting to hear what everyone thinks after the nomination period ends.

After some consideration, I'm changing my vote on the poll. A time limit simply isn't necessary, I think.

I agree with many of your assertions.

But it's pretty obvious that an award like GLAIR with a community vote process is always going to favor games that are more-widely-played.

Truth. With a backlog of decidedly worthy older games, a lifespan requirement isn't likely to have a big impact on which game wins or even which games are nominated each year, but it would unnecessarily create a group of games that are excluded, games that can't win or even be nominated.

Weird, there is nothing in Lady Blackbird’s entry about that, or any of the other stuff in Wild Blue Yonder. Why is that?

As of right now, 2/3s of responders think there should be an age limit this year and 50% think it should be ten years. That is not enough of a majority for me to be comfortable instituting the rule, so unless the votes change by a lot over the next few days we won’t use it this time around.

I will revisit the idea at the end of the contest.

It's mostly just the "Keys" system that TSOY uses for character motivations/advancement. The rest of LB does not particularly resemble TSOY.

Some things accomplish more in a minute than others do in a lifetime. If something new comes along that is so important it's a shoe-in for our little hall of fame, why not include it?

And hey, you never know. Games have been weak for a while now. We're due for something big.

Also, I really do nominate DSA. Easily top 15 on any list like this.

Thanks for running this!
