Hi Everyone,

Thanks for the week of congratulations and interesting questions. My time in the spotlight is over and it's time for the next lucky person...

Nicholas was present in many of my first forays into PbF games many years ago and is still present in many of the games I play and/or GM today. In fact, he's probably one of the few people on here that participates in as many Pathfinder games as I do. He's always a pleasure to be at the table with - no matter which side I happen to be sitting on.

So can everyone please join me in congratulating Nicholas for being the new Geek of the Week!

Here he is in his own words...

Quote:
First off, I would like to thank Woodenman for nominating me for the honor of RPG Geek of the Week, and be stowing upon me the unenviable task of attempting to find a new RPGGotW within 7 days…
Now with that out of the way, I guess I should tell you a little about myself as it pertains to gaming. I first got the RPG bug when I bought the 1983 D&D Basic Rules (Red Cover) back in 1986 at a garage sale. I quickly tore through the book and played the included solo adventure and I was hooked. It was not until ‘88 or ’89 when my dad’s fellow USMC buddy (and avid D&D player) introduced me to the ‘Advanced’ version and the plethora of painted figures he had on display and for use in his apartment. Since then I have played every version of D&D (except 4th, I pretend it did does not exist….) and have thoroughly enjoyed them all.
A coworker and friend of mine introduced me to PBF games, and BGG, and a new addiction was born. I quickly signed up with the Pathfinder Society and proceeded to create several characters and play as often as I can. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time on BGG and I can honestly say that I have not encountered a finer group of role playing gamers (shh don’t tell my Face-to-face groups that…. ;-) ).
I also enjoy most board games, and play them often with my coworkers during our lunch break (we have the record number of games for Resistance according to BGG….), and during our monthly game nights. My brother-in-law got me hooked on Warhammer 40K and I have a multi-thousand point Black Templar Space Marine army, and I am currently catching up on the new rule set. I also like playing PC based video games, including FPS and RPGs.
I am an avid reader, and almost always have a book on hand to read during my ‘down times’. I enjoy fantasy and sci-fi books, in general, but will ready most things with some persuasion.
When not playing various games or reading, I can be hanging out with my two sons and wife, or devoting my time to my eldest son’s Cub Scout Pack.

Poll: 2 Truths & A Lie
One of the below statements is false, good luck and let the game begin!
I have qualified for, and competed in, a national fencing tournament in USA
I was an alpha tester for the MMORPG World of Warcraft
I have been drinking coffee since I was three years old

Congratulations Nicholas!
Have a great week!

My usual question: Have you a favorite wizard? If so, who? If not, why? And which game (if any) is he/she from?

My favorite wizard would have to be Fizban from the Dragonlance series by Margaret Wise and Tracy Hickman. I love how his bumbling starts things going.

1. What is your favorite edition of D&D?
2. What are your top 5 most favorite movies? (A trilogy is allowed to count as one choice.)
3. Who is your favorite superhero and why?
4. Do you/have you ever read comic books? If so, which ones? Favorites?
5. Who is your favorite Transformer and why?
6. Do your sons share some of the same interests as you? If so, what did you feel like was effective in getting them interested?
7. What are your favorite kind of weapons to arm your characters with?

Thanks for your time!

Thanks!

When I was a youth we used to play at night on camp outs. I have not run anything as a leader yet, though my wife and I have both ran things for our kids and friends' kids. I have definitely thought about it, though.

Thanks!

1. My favorite is probably Pathfinder, the 3.5 rule set had it close, but I think Paizo put some excellent finishing touches. Not counting Pathfinder, I would say 5th edition. It really brings back that feeling of 'old' D&D, and it is the one that I have been teaching my kids.
2. Hmm in no particular order: Star Wars, Top Gun, Hunt for Red October, Spy Game, Transformers the 1986 movie.
3. That is a hard one. Probably a toss up between Wolverine and Green Arrow. Both characters have really gritty aspects to them, and they were not always (or ever) squeaky clean.
4. I read a lot of them when I was younger, mostly Marvel, and in that universe mostly X-men (and their derivatives). I did collect the entire Infinity Gauntlet saga, and quit a few Ironman and Spider-Man one offs. I have not collected comics in quite sometime, the last one I read for myself was probably Watchmen before the movie came out. I do read several Avenger comics to the kids though.
5. Another tough choice. I would have to say Optimus Prime. He always seemed like a good example of a leader and his battle with Megatron in the 86 movie was awesome. I love his background being a lowly archivist and then becoming the most bad ass Prime. Superion has to be a close second, though.
6. My sons share almost all of my nerdy interests: comics, role-playing, video games, fencing, toys, dice, and many more. I did not do anything special to encourage them. I played in front of them and if the had questions or wanted to try I would answer them and let them. I used to play WoW with my eldest son napping on my lap in a boppie pillow and as he got older he started watching me, and I eventually made him a character on my account. With my youngest he wants to do whatever his older brother is doing, so no special trading there.
7. Good question. I always equip them with a wearable weapon (gauntlet, cestus, etc), a dagger, and a ranged weapon. Beyond that, it is whatever the character concept requires. If I am making a Green Arrow esq character, then obviously a bow of some sort and the ability to punch people. I do have a tendency to make characters that use swords, but that is because I like swords and I know how to use them.

d10-1 Minimal dice. My chainmail dice bag contains 4 of each dice, except d6s, which there are 10. I do own a giant bag of dice for when friends come over.

d10-2 Since I have most of the Pathfinder rule set memorized, I tend use the D&D 5th Ed book, because I am still working on committing to that one to memory.

d10-3 My most prizes RPG possession would be the set of dice my wife bought me while we were dating. I have had those dice for 20 years. They are well used cool

d10-4 Hmm that is a tough one. Toss up between Dragonlance/Krynn and The Riftwar Cycle/Midkemia worlds.

d10-5 My Kensai Magus' (Ta'lon Bludhaven) intelligent blackblade, Aben-dul.

Thanks, Terrence!

I currently have 7 PFS characters running around and several on the sidelines waiting for someone to run level one scenarios... (whistle)

I am tempted do a Mooncursed Barbarian as my next character to try out. Generally don't straight martial characters, but something about turning into a wolf/bear/etc. and fighting people sounds appealing.
