Thanks for the week full of warm wishes! I am proud to be a part of the RPG Geek of the Week family now, and it is my pleasure to introduce our newest member:

Phillip is a great roleplayer on both sides of the table. He is a prolific Pathfinder Society GM, including running Multi-Table Specials which can be a crazy amount of work. I have had the pleasure of sitting at his table a few times now and it is always a treat. As a player, his characters are always strong contributors both in combat and also in fluffier roleplaying situations.

Please join me in congratulating Phillip on being the newest Geek of the Week! Here he is in his own words...

Quote:
Thanks for the nomination Dave! Luckily it's a real one this time around. 2 or 3 years ago when I first started up on RPGG someone nominated me by mistake (via geekmail so it wasn't too bad). I've come a long way since then.

As many of us are I was entranced by Magic: The Gathering in high school. But being in highschool meant that I did not have the funds to play. But as I got older (and got a part time weekend job), money became easier and I started to play. I moved on from MTG to the WOW TCG which I enjoyed much more. Through all this I gradually grew up, got married, had kids. This severely limited my money and time which is what led me to boardgames and BGG. After a couple of years, I explored I bit further and discovered that RPGG had PbF games and the rest is history. I had purchased a bunch of D&D 3E books but sold them when 3.5E was released - I never played. But I discovered Pathfinder and that, along with RPGG PbF's, provided an outlet that I never had before. I could play with like minded people without leaving the house and without spending much money. Now Im constantly playing & GM'ing Pathfinder games - often as many games as I can get my characters into as possible.

Poll
Which of these is the lie? Due to my various hobby obsessions I have:
won a free trip halfway around the world
defaulted on a mortgage payment
missed my 1st wedding anniversary

Congrats Phillip! Here's a few simple questions to get your week started:

1- What is your favorite boardgame?
2- What is your favorite character you have created?
3- What is the hardest character type for you to play?

Thanks Dave!

1) Its hard to pick one but I would have to with 1 of either Fields of Arle or Terraforming Mars.

2) My Pathfinder Occultist is probably my favourite character. He's got his fingers in all the pies - he does a bit of everything. Talks well, picks locks, casts spells and swings a greatsword. He can contribute in most situations which I love as Im always involved.

3) Hardest character type for me is full casters. I primarily play PFS so you have to start from the beginning (Level 1). They start off very slow and get outshined by virtually everything. Because I only play PbF and not F2F, it takes a long time to level up enough that I feel useful.

d10-1 What is your favourite colour when playing a boardgame?
1) I usually play Purple if its available or Red otherwise.

d10-2 Spring, Summer, Autumn or Winter?
2) Spring. Definitely. Summer is too hot & Winter is too cold.

d10-3 Do you play an instrument? If yes, which one and for how long already?
3) No never have. Dad tried to convince me to when I was young and now I wish I had.

d10-4 Having fun?
4) Always.

d10-5 What would have been your name if it wasn't the name you have?
5) Not really sure. Im quite fond of my name.

d10-6 What is your favourite snack?
6) Probably something sweet & found in a bakery.

d10-7 What is your favourite day of the week?
7) Saturday. No dayjob / all family.

d10-8 What is your favourite time of day?
8) It varies depending on when the kids go to bed

d10-9 What character would you be in a Star Trek setting?
9) I have never really followed Star Trek (I know right! The Horror!) but I imagine I would be one of the supporting techy types.

d10-1d10-0 What makes you "tick" (inspires you, why do you get up in the morning)?
10) Fun, Friends & Family (probably not in that order though)

d10-1d10-1 What is your life-long dream?
11) I would actually really like to go to Essen Spiel and Gencon at some point but the mortgage etc precludes spending the kind of money required to get me there.

d10-1d10-2 What is your favourite RPG race/class?
12) Probably Elves. Because they tend to get Dexterity & Intelligence bonuses which tends to align with abilities / powers from classes that I enjoy.

d10-1d10-3 If you could go back in time - where and when would you go?
13) Going back in time hmmm. Assuming I could stop it at any time, I’ve always thought I would enjoy some sort of Groundhog Day scenario where I get stuck reliving the same day (and remembering).

d10-1d10-4 Could you enlighten us about your avatar?
14) When the kind members of RPGG donated 30 gg to me, I needed something. So I googled some pictures (I don’t remember what I searched for) and found something that looked cool and stood out. It’s easy to find my posts even if I scroll fast 

d10-1d10-5 Where does your username come from?
15) Similar I think. I need a username for my BGG signup and I wanted something semi relevant. It’s just kina stuck. I use it for everything now.

d10-1 What games in my collection would you like to play?
Terra Mystica, Agricola, Caylus, Brass. I've played them all before and greatly enjoy all of them

d10-2 Which Fiasco would we play IRL?
Unfortunately I have no knowledge of Fiasco (quite literally).

d10-3 What adventure would you GM with me IRL?
That depends I guess - I've only really played Pathfinder although Im trying to get Starfinder off the ground here on RPGG. Ive just started GMing a game of each for Paizo's Gameday VI.

ninja Would you be a good ninja?
You know what? Im gonna say Yes

arrrh Would you be a great pirate?
No Id be terrible.

zombie What would you do with zombies?
Run screaming? Depends what I had to hand. If there were weapons handy, I might make a go of it.

robot And with cybermen?
Make friends. Assuming they weren't sent from the future to kill me then see above.

sauron What is your preciousssssss?
My kids or if we are talking possessions then probably my iPad.

d10-2 What is your most used RPG book?
Probably my Pathfinder Core Rule Book & Pathfinder Occult Adventures

d10-3 What is your most prized RPG possession?
I have all of my RPG books as PDF's on my ipad so im going to cheat and say that.

d10-4 If you could visit any RPG world for real which would it be?
Anything with Dragons. Would be sweet to see a real one.

d10-5 If you could own for real one item off one of your player character's character Sheets, what would it be?

Some questions for you..

1. Do you ever GM? If so, what is some important advice you would give to a new GM?

2. What are your 5 most favorite movies?

3. Besides Book of the Fallen and Stormlight, what are some other fantasy novels you love?

4. It seems like you're a huge superhero fan. Who is your favorite? Do you read comics? If so, which ones?

Thanks for your time!

Not so much RPG's although that might be nice. Havent really consider it really. Much more looking forward to playing deeper boardgames with them.

Does the spouse play?
Not RPG's no but she does play the occasional boardgame with me.

If you could have any famous person (living or dead) playing an RPG at your table, who would it be and why?
Any famous person who had the same interests in gaming as me would be welcome at my table. I can't really think of someone in particular.

1. Do you ever GM? If so, what is some important advice you would give to a new GM?
Yes I do GM. I started about a year ago now here on RPGG. Pathfinder mostly but Ive just started a Starfinder game last week. Im hoping there will be many more of both.

As for advice to new GM's, PbF is a great platform for any potential GM thinking about sitting on the other side of the screen. There is no real time pressure so you can check rules at your leisure. Don't be afraid of mistakes. They are a great way of learning the ropes

2. What are your 5 most favorite movies?
I love superhero movies of all shapes and sizes. Usually even if they are universally reviled by critics. Maybe just because I like the Fantasy Hero troupe.
Im a big fan of Sporting / Feel Good movies - Remember the Titans is one of my favourites.

3. Besides Book of the Fallen and Stormlight, what are some other fantasy novels you love?
I really like the Wheel of Time as a whole though parts of it are not as goods others.
The Song of Ice and Fire is also really good. I've read all the books (before the TV show started) and have not seen any of the TV series. Ill get around it one day.
Robin Hobb's various trilogy's are really good too.
R A Salvatore's Drizzt / Forgotten Realms books get the nod. I could go on and on. I've read a lot.

4. It seems like you're a huge superhero fan. Who is your favorite? Do you read comics? If so, which ones?
I don't really have a favourite. Probably the Avengers - possibly because they have the most movies on them.
I don't have any comicbooks & have never read them. The more words the better as far as Im concerned. Pictures are for kids

Thanks for your time!

D If money (or nothing else for that matter) would be no object, where would you travel to?
Probably do a world tour and see the 7 wonders or something similar. Pyramids / Great Wall / Machu Pichu etc

E If you could go back in time and meet any one person you'd like to,
who'd you meet and why?
Good question. But after some though, I've still got no idea.

F Your favourite pizza toppings?
Any and all types of meat.

G Any pets?
No I haven't had any pets for a long time. My daughter is insisting that I buy her a puppy for her birthday though.

H What's the weirdest food you actually happen to love?
No idea. I can be pretty fussy with what I eat. I don't tend to stray to far from what I like

I What was the last book you read? Did you enjoy it?
Im currently reading the Starfinder Rule book (500+ pages) - does that count? And yes Im enjoying it.

J What was the last film you saw? Would you recommend it?
I downloaded the latest Underworld movie from iTunes a couple of weeks ago. Was ok, probably wouldn't recommend it. I think it was the worst one so far.

K When buying RPGs, do you prefer dead tree or PDF?
PDF all the way. I don't have any hardcopies. Im too cheap probably
