I saw you declined all my corrections.

At the very least, remove GM-less from A Doomed Pilgrim, and add The Sundered Land: Restless Ambition in the Ruins of the Future somewhere in the database, if you don't agree with my reasoning where.

I think "The Sundered Land RPG fan" is still the best option, even if it's more RPG's than RPG. The 2nd supplement describes how to string the various minigames together, and how to create your own Sundered Land games. So treating the games as separate RPG's for RPGGeek database purposes is fine, but also not completely accurate. In any case, I think the 5 (or 6? 8? The 1st supplement, "Restless Ambition in the Ruins of the Future", tells you how to adapt one of the 5 games to 3 different settings), should not have their own microbadge categories.

I searched google, and found that people generally refer to "The Sundered Land: A Doomed Pilgrim in the Ruins of the Future" as simply "The Sundered Land". This totum pro parte seems to be more common than either the full title, or only the subtitle.

I intended the microbadge to be both for fans of the whole document, and for fans of A Doomed Pilgrim. I don't think it's a problem to have both represented by a single microbadge.

The name should be "The Sundered Land RPG fan - A Doomed Pilgrim", in case in the future someone makes microbadges for the other 4 (5? 7?) games, which could be called "The Sundered Land RPG fan - Caravan Guards" and so on. I could make them all right now, but I doubt people would buy them, as A Doomed Pilgrim seems to be by far the most popular game.

The mouseover should also be "The Sundered Land RPG fan", I think, but if you or the community disagree, "The Sundered Land: A Doomed Pilgrim in the Ruins of the Future RPG fan" would be fine too. The difference is I suppose similar to that between mb and mb.

I submitted corrections for the titles of the 5 minigames, because I believe it reflects the document, the designer's view, and practice a lot better if "The Sundered Land" is part of the title.

Here's a bit from the document, which shows why people would use "The Sundered Land" to refer to the game, rather than "A Doomed Pilgrim in the Ruins of the Future":

Okay, since intended the microbadge to be both for fans of the whole document, and for fans of A Doomed Pilgrim, would you be okay with these:

Name: The Sundered Land fan - A Doomed Pilgrim in the Ruins of the Future (If all this will fit) OR The Sundered Land - A Doomed Pilgrim in the Ruins of the Future (if the previous one won't fit) OR as the last option The Sundered Land fan (if neither previous won't fit). I'm not happy about cutting the name into only A Doomed Pilgrim, as that is not the whole name of the game. The name of a microbadge does not necessarily have to have word 'fan' in it and I would save the space in this case, if we that way will be able to fit the whole name.
Mouseover: The Sundered Land fan

I would in this case drop the RPG from the name and mouseover completely, as The Sundered Land, according to Vincent's own words, is the series that includes those five RPGs. And as the word RPG is not in any way absolutely mandatory, it would make sense to leave it out for this and the possible future The Sundered Land series badges. If you feel very very strongly about having the RPG in the game, we can keep it there, but in this case it really would make sense to just leave it out.

And about the D&D badges: that's one of the folders I have not yet had time to go through and make necessary changes for the names and mouseovers for consistency. So there might very well be some changes for those in the future, so those should not be used for any kind of reference

I have removed GM-less, I agree with that. I'm sorry I did not notice that was one of your corrections. I only saw the name changes in the corrections.

I think Restless Ambition in the Ruins of the Future should most likely be added as variant rules under Caravan Guards in the Ruins of the Future, as it is intended to adapt Caravan Guards to three different circumstances and is a supplement. In which case a mere correction won't do the trick, it has to be added to the database. Since this one is pretty tricky overall, I think it would be best if you had a conversation with our admins that specialise in the database stuff, to get this right. Could you please talk about this to either

My proposal for Restless Ambition in the Ruins of the Future was an an alternate name for Caravan Guards, since it's not a complete RPG on its own. (It says "Play Caravan Guards, except ..."). How do you feel about that?

It would be similar to boardgames where a new theme doesn't mean a new entry. In this case, the Caravan Guard/Restless Ambition versions might be less than 98.3% the same, but since the document doesn't treat them as new (mini)games, I don't think RPGGeek should either.

I'll send a message to a database admin, but I'd like to hear what you think as well!

Removing "fan" from the name and/or "RPG" from the mouseover is totally fine with me; I just wanted it to be consistent with all the other mb's, but perhaps this is a special case and consistency is not what we want. I just hope people don't confuse it with mb!

Thanks for your responses, thinking it through, messaging Vincent and so on thumbsup

This one is really tricky in several ways, database-wise, at least for me

I can actually talk to both of those admins and if we have questions, we'll contact you. I definitely agree with you that it should show somewhere, now it doesn't.

I'm all for consistency, but sometimes breaking the consistency makes way more sense!

Thanks for your patience during this process

We will approve this microbadge as soon as I can schedule a practicing session with RPGG's new microbadge admin. I want to let Daniel handle the approval and changes to the name and mouseover we agreed on. Good practice material!

Also, this badge came out really pretty, I think I will have to buy it when it's approved

This is obviously the wrong place to discuss this, but I can definitely see why GM-less was there in the first place, and it reflects what V.B. has said himself about the game. Although it requires one player to be different, so maybe it isn't by RPGG definitions.

I do believe it should be set to Competitive, which it isn't now, if V.B.'s own words have any weight at all.

Competitive makes very little sense, as there is only one character. Sure, the character and the players playing the world have conflicting goals, but players don't play against each other. You could also say that the character and the person playing that character have different goals (IC: "My goal is to pass safely through" vs. OOC: Your job: get your character into danger).

D&D isn't competitive just because the GM tries to have his BBEG thrust the world into eternal darkness, and the players try to have their characters stop him.

Edit: I suppose you could see competition in that players want to be the first to answer, rather than coming up with an answer co-operatively, but getting your answer picked isn't a way to victory.

Still the wrong thread, but here is a typical thing said by VB about the game:

Quote:
Particularly, Gordon: what makes the pilgrim's doom interesting IS the no-holds-barred, uneven struggle between the players.

It's just like in Chess: it's not your job to make being checkmated interesting for your opponent, it's your opponent's job to make checkmating her interesting (that is, challenging) for you. It's not the internet's job to make the pilgrim's doom interesting, it's the pilgrim player's job to make the pilgrim's doom hard to win.

Make sense? The game is only as interesting as it is challenging, and it's only as challenging as how hard its players play to their stated goals.

He's also called it "100% gamist".

Sure, players playing the world challenge the character. And the person playing the character makes the others work for it. But in the end, there isn't a winner among players.

If a game like Paranoia isn't competitive, this certainly isn't either.
