This thread for those interested in submitting their picks for the Geek Lifetime Achievement in Role-playing Tournament.

We have been taking predictions over in another thread. Predictions are due no later than midnight, September 8, Geek Time.

To make a prediction, go to: http://challonge.com/glair and click on the green "Start a Prediction" button. You will need to create a free Challonge account to make predictions. Please use the same screen name that you use for RPGG so that I know it's you.

Prizes for those whose picks get the most points are as follows:

1st Place: 95bag + additional tips I get on the GLAIR threads/Geeklists
2nd Place: 55bag + additional tips I get on the GLAIR threads/Geeklists
3rd Place: 30bag + additional tips I get on the GLAIR threads/Geeklists

I will also use this thread to post round-by-round updates of how everyone's predictions are doing, as well as updates to the prize amounts.

This thread is also for any good-natured smack talk the prognosticators what to thrown down at each other! And just a place to simply discuss the contest.

Have fun everyone!

Hahaha! I used the extended deadline to complete my research and submit my bracket. With the extra time and my keen insights as a former GLARP GLAIR overlord, my victory should be a foregone conclusion.

I added a link to the bracket in my OP in this thread.

I had had it linked in the GLAIR process thread, but created this separate thread for the contest because I figured not everyone subscribed to the process thread would want to hear all the chatter about the contest.

So that you can send it to me? No need for the middleman - just put it right into my grubby little hands.

The First Round is coming up next. There will be 32 matchups with each correct prediction for the round earning 2 points, so things should open up more after that.

For those of you who participated in my unofficial tournament, I am going to be scoring a bit differently this time.

During the unofficial tournament, pts per round increased exponentially, but that put too much weight on picking the champion, especially for a tournament with so few predictors. (ESPN & Yahoo use this point system for their NCAA brackets, but they literally have thousands of people competing.)

I feel the following point system better rewards the number of picks over the whole tournament, and still puts some weight on getting later picks correct.

For the wildcard round, each correct pick was 1 point. Each round after that, the points increase, so the 1st Round, it will be 2 points per match; in the 2nd Round it will be 4 points per match; Sweet Sixteen, 7 pts/match; Elite Eight, 11 pts/match; Final Four, 16 pts/match; picking the champion of the whole tournament is 22 pts.

Since the Challonge site only accommodates exponential (1,2,4,8,16,32) and linear (1,2,3,4,5,6) scoring, this means that, after the Second Round, the Challonge site's predictions standings will not reflect the actual point values I am using. I will be sure to constantly remind you if this and, of course, post the point value updates here.

"Chuck, why do you have to be so complicated," you ask? I really think this is a better system and feel that if folks are picking the winners of 67(!) matchups, it shouldn't ONLY come down to the championship game.

Congratulations to all of you who made predictions, especially those of you who went 6/6 in the Wildcard Round!

Hah! At the top of the list! Not least due to a cleverly chosen username!

To be honest, I don't expect to stay up there, but then again, why not hope?

I don't understand how this works, exactly... It's probably my lack of knowledge of betting on fantasy tournaments, but...

How come I only have 5 out of 6 points when all of my predicted winners actually won their brackets? What am I missing?

Edit: Nevermind, I'm an idiot - was looking at brackets incorrectly blush

I probably should've hyped The Braunstein Game more. Chill is a fine game with a good history, but Braunstein was THE FIRST RPG. Hard to beat that.

True. So, its lifetime achievement is to open the door for D&D? History is rather cruel.

Yes, Braunstein would have needed more hyping.
