Welcome and Contribute!

We, the RPGgeeks, are compiling a list of roleplaying character sheet templates for your play-by-form (PbF) pleasure. Besides this forum there is also a Geeklist format but limitations in cut/paste formatting makes this forum a better platform to consolidate the templates. I will get notifications when a posting is added and will add the geekurl link to the list below for ease of access. May your crits be plentiful and your foes have a charisma of 10 and strength of 1.

PLEASE READ

Many of these PbF Character sheets use the [c] "code" tags to allow for tab alignments and layout features with special characters. If you choose to use one of these character sheets it is important tocopy the formatting into your character creation geeklist, wiki, or forum in this manner:
+ Select QUICKQUOTE or QUOTE to open the character sheet template in this forum
+ While in the posting edit window, place your mouse cursor in the body and right-click for menu to SELECT ALL. When all text is highlighted, then right-click to select copy.
+ On your character creation geeklist, wiki, or forum, open a new item or post then right-click paste to put this template in place to draft your character.
+ Now go back to this PbF Character Sheet Template forum and CANCEL the QUOTE post you opened.
+ Return to your character creation geeklist, wiki, or forum and remove the [q =...] on the first line and the [/q] tag at the very last line ending. Save to see if you got everything you need in the template and then begin to edit as needed.
{Created upon request - let me know if you have any issues}

ONE UNIQUE THING : “I am ..."
Your character’s One Unique Thing (their unique) is a special feature invented by you, the player, which sets your character apart from every other hero. It is a unique and special trait to your player, and markedly unusual. The intent is that it provides a special flavor to the campaign and can assist the GM in determining how your character can interact with characters and story in the campaign. Your character’s unique should not provide general practical value in combat. That is not the intent. The intent is to open up story arcs and fun roleplaying opportunities.

Then perhaps you can enlighten me on how to make the search function in RPGgeek find wiki results? Seems to be a frequent user issue for me, any tips?

Just an FYI I am using the phpBB codes for the tagging of formats in order to have these templates usable in Geeklists. I know wiki coding does differentiate some but I have not done a comparative yet. Most of the PbF I have experienced on RPGG tend to use Geeklist format for character sheets.

Your idea is great and it may be something else to think about adding as a PbF aid for RPGG. Any and every idea sparks a new way of making PbF more fun and engaging on RPGG. Please, let me know any other thoughts or if you have found any good templates we can format for this forum and its geeklist.

I am hoping we both can be enlightened if someone knows how search from the RPGgeek main page will find a wiki page in the geek.do.

If you select 'wiki' from the drop down search menu you can search them that way. Is that what you're looking for?

Hmmm... It looks like the Wiki has been used for this (for specific PbF games). Here's an example:

PbF rek075 DCC Character Sheet Template

It's... workable. The problem is that you don't see the end result until after you copy-paste it into a forum. I still like the GeekList idea. Perhaps the thing to do is use the first comment after the item for the character sheet, then the source can be grabbed via Quote or QuickQuote. The main item area could then be used for some basic info on which parts of the character sheet to chop out for different classes, or some other formatting information.

You could create a Guild and then write each file into a text document and upload them as files to the guild.

My bad in not initially checking the Geeklist edit-bility for using the item function for code collection. You have some great ideas about using the comments to place the templates as this would give other the opportunity to place there versions (expanded, abbreviated, etc.) within the same RPG item area. Hmmmm, definintely a great idea - let me wiggle it with the first entry to see how the looks+feels.

BTW, thanks for your own DCC contribution to the Geeklist version. Perhaps there may need to be a multi-post (geeklist, forum, wiki) distribution. Ideas anyone?

OUTSTANDING Sir! Definite user search exercise for me! Doing both "play by Forum" and "PbF" keyword searches so far and will see if there is a consolidated wiki for templates to post here. Thanks again for your insight and welcome any other tips!

You know, a Play by Forum Guild might not be a bad idea, if there isn't one already. Could discuss potential games, get a feel for interests, etc.

Well, there is a PbF guild already:

Play By Forum - Image Storage Guild

Maybe something along the same lines, but specifically for PbF character sheets?

Might also be of interest - I've done up a good handful of character sheets in spreadsheet form for VOIP games. If there's one on there that's relevant, it should be a quick task to strip it down for forum formatting.

It seems like
RPG» Forums » Actual Play » Play by Forum, PbF / PbP Players Looking for a Game, and the forums on specific Items are a good foundation for recruiting and planning, but a guild to dump character sheets (like the Image dump) might be helpful.

You know, a Play by Forum Guild might not be a bad idea, if there isn't one already. Could discuss potential games, get a feel for interests, etc.

It seems like
RPG» Forums » Actual Play » Play by Forum, PbF / PbP Players Looking for a Game, and the forums on specific Items are a good foundation for recruiting and planning, but a guild to dump character sheets (like the Image dump) might be helpful.

In a grander scheme, it would be great to combine the PbF Image Guild (or rename it) to an all encompassing Play-by-Forum Guild for a one-stop shop of forum playing goodness (PbF tips and tricks, newbie PbF GM blog, PbF Common Courtesies, character sheets, links to wiki info, recruit forum, image directory, etc.).

I have found so many old, new and slightly in-draft PbF items about in forums, lists, and wikis that would best be served linked within a guild. My person view is to move to one PbF guild and have the images a part of that space instead of creating a totally different guild... hence, we would have the numerous PbF guilds instead of the one place to rule them all get all the PbF goodness.

Could also just use a geeklist, that way you can link the actual game to the character sheet and it shows up on that games page as well.

Just a thought 'cuz that's what I do.

Pain, and stress from pain, doesn't let me read too well...you're way ahead of the curve. My bad.

Support comes in many forms: community involvement, forum posts, submitting data, running PbF games, word-of-mouth advertising, financial donations... All these are vital to this site, and you have my sincere thanks for participating in any of them.

If this is a good place for the templates, how can we get this thread pinned?
By having an admin notice your request.

Oh! I just did.

No bad at all... in fact, you bring up a good insight of possibly posting to the PbF in the appropriate rules a thread with the character sheet to make it accessible there as well. Or a thread with a link to one. Hmmm, great ideas coming from you all - outstanding!

I am hoping we both can be enlightened if someone knows how search from the RPGgeek main page will find a wiki page in the geek.do.

If you select 'wiki' from the drop down search menu you can search them that way. Is that what you're looking for?
God bless,

OUTSTANDING Sir! Definite user search exercise for me! Doing both "play by Forum" and "PbF" keyword searches so far and will see if there is a consolidated wiki for templates to post here. Thanks again for your insight and welcome any other tips!

Glad to help where I can as to be honest I don't really have any other tips . I do think compiling character sheet templates for PbF games will be a great resource though. I haven't seen enough PbF wikis to say how well one would work versus a geeklist but Eddie's idea of using the comments in a geeklist could work, I think. And maybe in the actual item as well as any information there could be the needed custom dice for any games that requires them. That would make them easy to find and require no need to be able to quote for code.

God bless,
Kezle
