Inside a meeting room at the Pathfinder Society headquarters Venture-Captain Ambrus Valsin stands at the end of a long table. To either side of him stand Lady Gloriana Morilla and Major Colson Maldris.

"Thank you for coming,Pathfinders," Valsin says, gesturing for everyone to sit, though he remains standing. "Your recent discovery of the location of a lost dwarven Sky Citadel has staggering potential rewards for exploring the site."

He turns to face a map of the Inner Sea on the wall and pokes a location with a loud thump. "Unfortunately, the Sky Citadel is located within what was once Sarkoris--the demon-infested region now known as the Worldwound. After a long debate and careful planning, we began to recruit military aid to push into the demon-haunted land so we could reach the site; however, before we could make any significant gains, Mendev’s wardstones--a collection of minor artifacts designed to keep the demons from pouring out of the Worldwound--began to inexplicably fail. In short, there’s a hole in the dam and demons are trickling into Mendev in greater numbers. With Mendev under this new assault, we realize that in order to reach the Sky Citadel, we must aid the Fifth Crusade and help turn back the demons.

"Since the nations of the Inner Sea are not reacting expediently to the danger presented by the newly invigorated Worldwound, a small cadre of concerned Pathfinders--including Trade Prince Aakir al’Hakam, paracountess Zarta Dralneen, the Sapphire Sage Amenopheus, Lady Gloriana Morilla, and Major Colson Maldris--have united to leverage their influence. With my support, they plan to petition the Grand Council of Absalom and persuade them to issue an executive order to send soldiers to Mendev immediately.

“To increase our chances for success, we called in a favor from the Blakros family, who remain grateful to the Society for you recently saving the marriage of Michellia Blakros and the Hellknight Damien Kastner. The newlyweds have organized a dinner party with an impressive guest list to be held at Fiddlemourn Manor. Lady Morilla and Major Maldris will attend, and they plan to use the feast as an opportunity to convince some of Absalom’s elite to support the upcoming motion. We need you to mingle with several important guests and befriend them so that they are more disposed to throw their support behind the Fifth Crusade. These special guests include Senator Augustyn Naran of Andoran,Lady Vaelia Wintermark of Taldor, Lady Dyrianna of House Avenstar, Scion Lord Kerkis of House Damaq, Lord Rothos of House Vastille, Lady Darchana of House Madinani, and Dremdhet Salhar, the Grand Ambassador of Osirion.

“The feast is tomorrow evening. I'm sorry for notifying you so late, but your previous performance shows you are up for the task. Though the Blakroses are handling security, we want you to attend in your full adventuring regalia to help solidify your role as representatives of the Pathfinder Society and lend credibility to any claims you make regarding your knowledge of the Worldwound and the worldwide threat it signifies. We also expect you to provide additional security if it’s needed."

Valsin levels his solemn gaze on everyone at the table. "Remember, this is a social gathering. It’s crucial that we make a good impression on the guests, win their support, and improve the Society’s standing with them. Without their support, our motion to the Grand Council is doomed to failure. You've done it before, and we need you to do it once more."

He waves at another map on the wall, showing Absalom. "Fiddlemourn Manor is located in the Petal District, and is owned by Michellia’s maternal cousin Oved Blakros. Oved is currently at his villa in Cassomir and offered to let Michellia and Damien host the feast at his home while he is away. The manor originally served as a musical conservatory but closed just over a century ago after the conservatory’s founder died of old age. The manor remained abandoned until 26 years ago, when Oved bought and renovated it.

"While we don’t expect any major problems, the Blakros family has made many enemies over the centuries. We suspect the Onyx Alliance might still pose a threat, since its attack on the Grand Convocation was only 2 years ago. Though the Worldwound is far away, if word of the feast and the Pathfinder Society’s plans has reached the creatures that control that blighted land, we might have to deal with their minions. The Blakroses assure us that they have security under control, though, and that the Pathfinder Society attendees probably won’t be required to engage in any combat."
He smiles grimly at that. "We all know how well that worked out at the last party, eh?"

The group has a couple of days to scout around and get what they need for the event.

Linarra appears to still be a young woman, although her narrow dark eyes betray a stern character. She ignores Ambrus' invitation to sit, and remains standing like he does. Perhaps the customary jet-black, bladed Hellknight armor makes it impossible for her to sit properly. Her nose is slightly crooked, as if it’s been broken at one time, and healed badly. She has curly red hair that frames her pretty, pale-skinned face as it cascades down to her shoulders like a waterfall, spilling onto her jet-black, bladed armor and crimson-colored cloak. She carries with her a seven-foot long glaive.

Good, after trekking through a forest, being stuck on a river barge, and having to stay in that pox-ridden gladiator city, I'll be glad to be amongst civilization for awhile again.

"I'm not familiar with the Onyx Alliance, who are they? And do we honestly believe that demonic agents might interfere all the way over here," she directs the questions to Ambrus, her tone calm and neutral.

Linarra knows the Fiddlemourn house is a lovely one, in the fanciest district of the city. The people are all aristocracy, she thinks. A few of the names are familiar to her...

Lady Dyrianna lives in Absalom, and has business connections with powerful people in Cheliax and Qadira, and she is also on friendly terms with many of Absalom’s elven families.

Lord Rothos is the Captain of the First Guard, Commander Militant of Absalom, and patriarch of the prominent Vastille noble family.

Scion Lord Kerkis is the patriarch of the very wealthy and influential House Damaq. He is also Lord Exchequer of the Absalom Mint, so he practically controls the economy of Absalom.

The matriarch of House Madinani, Lady Darchana is the Second Spell Lord of Absalom and the Archdean of the Arcanamirium, the most prestigious magical university in Absalom.

The Venture Captain shurgs in response to her question. "Perhaps. Perhaps not. But helping to influence these people will pave the way for the Society to get a team into the sky citadel, hopefully."

Thoriel, looking as glamorous as ever, can't hide her obvious pleasure at the sound of this mission. With a respectful bow of the head to the Lady Gloriana, she breaks out into a radiant smile.

"Oh, what a relief to not be going underground yet again. I was beginning to worry that if I went on one more mission into some dingy, long-forgotten cave or cavern I'd start to go blind like a mole...or heaven forbid grow a beard like one of those dwarven maidens we saw on our last outing."

She then looks around the group, noticing the distinct lack of Thekk-ness. "Where is our dwarven colleague, by the way? Even I have to admit he was more than a little handy to have around on that last mission."

Noticing the new arrival she spares Linarra a smile. "Welcome...I'm Thoriel! It's a pleasure, I'm sure. It will be nice to have a bit more of a feminine touch around here. I really like what you've done with your hair!"

Valsin shrugs. "I didn't think Thekk was quite the right fit for this mission. Now, if there's nothing else...and remember to show up at least an hour early to the event, so they can go over security with you."

Valsin gestures gently towards the door.

Linarra raises an eyebrow at Thoriel's remark, unsure if it was genuine, or if she was being mocked. You never knew with these elves.

Once they're outside, Linarra scoffs loudly. "They want us to attend a grand feast, fully armed and armored, and still they have the audacity to assure us that nothing will go wrong. I have a bad feeling about this."

As they're being pushed outside, Célestin gives a slap on Flinder's back and says:

Why the worrying face my friend? That will change us for once, well, no, twice exactly. And will be like meeting old... *cough* friends.

Don't you remember the lovely party we had last time?

Then he turns to the two Pathfinders and with an elegant bow, he presents himself.

Right on time the next afternoon, the group arrives at Fiddlemourn manor. Fiddlemourn Manor’s exterior walls are of mortared gray bricks, and the interior walls are covered with smooth, white lime plaster with a 4-foot-high light maple wainscoting. Windows are securely shuttered and latched. The front doors are of heavy oak and carved with images of galloping horses. The grounds are surrounded by a 12-foot-high fieldstone wall. Within the wall, the grounds consist of a neatly trimmed lawn of green grass punctuated by broad-leafed, shady trees, numerous tropical plants, and immaculately tended flower beds divided by 10-foot-tall flowering tapestry hedges. A winding cobblestone path leads from the front gate to the doors, and branches off around the house.

A guard at the gate reviews the group's invitation, and waves them on. Servants swing the doors open as the group approaches, and the tastefully decorated entry is revealed. As the group heads in, they can see servants and guards hustling all over the place, working to put the finishing touches on decorations, polishing tableware, and carrying instruments. The doorman helpfully says "You are expected in the salon." and gestures to a door on the right.

Opening the door into the salon, the group sees Damien and Michellia Blakros, Major Maldris, Lady Morilla, and a gnome, all chatting and seemingly getting along well.

Michellia turns to the group and smiles. "Welcome to Fiddlemourn. I am greatful you all agreed to come. Hopefully, this evening will provide the opportunity your society hopes for. I believe you know everyone but Tespren." She gestures to a gnome, who is wearing elaborate silk robes and leather bracers, who moves to stand in front of the party and bows.

"A pleasure. I am Tespren, captain of the Blakros guards. I know your credentials, let me get you familiar with the house. Guests are due to arrive in an hour or so."

Tespren escorts the group around the manor and grounds, He's friendly and polite, but clearly single-minded and dedicated when it comes to his job, telling people to shift chairs and trim bushes if he thinks it will effect a guard's line of sight.

if the group has any questions about the place during the tour, he's happy to answer them.

1. Stable: The stable currently houses the mounts belonging to the Blakroses. Seven
stable hands are bustling about, getting ready to care for the animals they expect to show up soon.

2. Kennel: The kennel is a roofed, open-walled structure surrounded by a 5-foot-high wooden fence. It is home to five wolf hounds owned by Oved Blakros. "The hounds are well-trained show dogs. They may look tough, but unless being licked can kill you, they are harmless."

3. Great Hall: This massive entry hall is well lit and sparsely furnished. The fireplace on the east wall is large enough for an adult human to stand inside. Mounted on the wall above the fireplace is the stuffed head of a largesized draconic creature with shiny blue-green scales. Four house guards are posted here, one in each corner.

4. Salon: Several comfortable chairs and sofas sit in this well-lit room, a place for guests to relax, enjoy music, and conversation. A string quartet from the esteemed White Grotto bardic college has set up in the northwest corner.

5. Study: This room contains a large desk, three leather chairs, and cabinets containing various curios and minor art objects.

6. Dining Hall: This spacious room is heated by a large fireplace and lit by two massive crystal chandeliers. The walls are decorated with painted murals of horses galloping through vast green plains. The largest feature in the room is a huge, U-shaped oaken table, where servants are getting the place settings finalized.

7. Kitchen: The kitchen features two large fireplaces, a wide oaken table, and numerous wall mounted counters and cabinets. A staff of six cooks are beign bossed around by a seventh foul-mouthed person. "Domeros Prinitar, a supposedly renowned master chef." Tespren rolls his eyes.

8. Pantry: The pantry is well stocked

9. Storage Closet: This room contains tools, linens, barrels of water, and other mundane items.

10. Shrine: The dusty, somewhat neglected shrine features marble statues of the gods Abadar, Calistria, Desna, and Shelyn. A small brass brazier burns fragrant incense.

11. Privy: This room holds a porcelain toilet, a wallmounted
wash basin filled with rose-scented water, and a rack of hand towels. A small brass oil lamp on the ceiling provides plenty of light.

12. Smoking Room: A cabinet holds a rack of scrimshaw, clay, and ivory pipes, pouches of mundane and exotic pipeweed, and a box of expensive cigars from Ilizmagorti.

13. Garden: A cobblestone path winds through the gardens and opens into a well-trimmed lawn bordered by shady trees to the east and west, a flowering hedge to the north, and a tall stone wall to the south. A wooden gazebo sits near the back of the open area.

14. Wine Cellar: Wooden racks line the walls and alcoves of the wine cellar holding hundreds of bottles of wine from across the Inner Sea, including several vintages the group recognizes as worth over 100 gp a piece. A fieldstone-rimmed well stands in the western alcove. The well is covered by a heavy oaken lid and is locked. A wooden bucket attached to a 60-foot length of silk rope sits atop the well’s lid.

15. Trophy Hall and Gallery: This large open area has a polished hardwood floor. The walls contain the manor’s best paintings and trophy heads, including Blakros family portraits dating back centuries.

16. Drawing Room: This room contains a billiards table, a rack of pool cues, a couch, several chairs, and a fireplace. Long, white dust cloths cover all of the furniture.

17. Guest Bedroom: This room contains a fireplace, a bed, and a dresser. Long, white dust cloths cover all of the furniture.

18. Serving Maids’ Quarters: Three double-bunks occupy this room, along with six small wicker chests.

19. Library: This library has comfortable chairs
surrounded by shelves of books.

20. Master Bedroom: Everything in this luxuriously furnished room is covered in long white dust cloths.

21. Private Bathroom: Similar to area 11, this room also contains a vanity table and mirror and a large porcelain bathtub.

1 "How many guards do you have posted on the outside? Are they patrolling the perimeter, or are they simply stationed at the doors?"
3 "Is that fireplace shut, or might someone gain entry through crawling down there?"
13 "These garden walls are not very high, I would like a few guards to patrol the perimeter here."
14 "Where does that well draw its water from?"
15 "Is there a guard posted on this balcony?"

3. "The fireplace is open...it's not impossible to gain access, I suppose, but it will be lit, and there is a metal grate halfway down."

13. "Two guards are always patrolling through the grounds."

14. "From an underground lake. The shaft goes down about 40 ft before it gets to the water. We keep it covered and locked when not drawing water."

15. "No, but the guards do wander through the area on patrol."

Not exactly sure what she might be looking for and more out of curiousity than anything, Thoriel casts detect magic at regular intervals as they are given the tour.

As they pass through the shrine she instinctively gives a bow to her goddess Calistria, a knowing smile on her face as she thinks back to her time serving in the temple back in Taldor. Before leaving the room she gives the statue a bit of a dust to make it look more presentable, as the goddess would no doubt want her to do.

To Célestin's eyes, there are a few potential hiding spots. Overall it seems to avoid detection for long, someone would need magic of some kind. There just aren't that many spots where a guard can't see--it seems the Captain has made sure of it.

The structure for this next part of the scenario really requires a bit of explanation, I think. I apologise for breaking the narrative flow, but understanding how this works will aid the party greatly in planning effectively for the limited chances given to succeed.

The scenario goal is to influence the "major" party guests to favor the Pathfinders. There are specific times set aside to do this in the scenario, and with a specific number of chances per character. With no indication of when those moments are, it would be very easy to fail this scenario and not even realise it because you are roleplaying. So, as we get to the segments of the scenario where the party can make influence checks, I'll tell you.

Game mechanic wise, the rules are quite structured. Each PC gets X chances during each "influence window". You can only target 1 person with each chance, but you can target different people with each chance. Once everyone has used their chances, the moment is over and the story progresses.

Other things to note:
--The specific skills to use during influence checks vary by individual; not all the NPCs are impressed by the same thing. However, Bluff and Diplomacy can always be used.

--More than one person can target the same PC, and thus work together on a single influence check (using Aid Another).

--Each successful influence attempt scores 1 "influence point" on that NPC. Some NPCs require more than one influence point to be convinced. For every 5 the influence DC is beaten by, you get an additional influence point.

--There is a +2 bonus to the influence check specified for "particularly good" roleplaying.

--Not all of the NPCs can be influenced. It's up to the group to figure out which to focus on.

--You can also gain an advantage by studying an NPC’s behavior, remembering key facts, and intuiting motivations. Instead of using one of a PCs X chances to influence, they can attempt a Discovery check to learn more about a given NPC. If successful, the PC learns valuable information about the character’s interests, granting all the PCs a +4 competence bonus on any future Influence checks against that target. This will also reveal if NPC is even possible to influence.

For exmaple, good roleplaying + discovery info = +6 to an influence check.

Ok, now then...any questions, and is anyone doing anything else before the guests arrive?
