Having arrived in Magnimar several days ago, you were instructed to meet with Venture-Captain Sheila Heidmarch inside the Heidmarch Manor this evening. Arriving early, you are met at the gates by a man-at-arms who escorts you into a small private sitting room. Tea sits on a small side table, and several chairs are arranged facing a plain oak desk. VC Heidmarch has yet to arrive.

Sit down relax and introduce yourselves

The VC will be along once everyone has arrived.

OOC thread is here.

A weird looking creature arrives, clad in a heavy robe with a dark hood covering much of its head. The large black beak is a sure give-away the creature is a bird-like tengu however, a wakizashi strapped to its waist.

As he enters the sitting room and the man closes the door behind him, its shifty eyes sweep across the room. Apparantly he's the first to arrive. "I sure they don't mind if Shiikta has a lookabout," the creature whispers to himself. After glancing at the tea set with disinterest, he steps behind the desk, surreptitiously looking through its contents, keeping a careful eye on the door.

Next through the door comes the burly dwarf, his armor clanking loudly as he waddles into the room. The front of his breastplate is emblazoned with the image of a large warhammer, and a matching weapon hangs about at the dwarf's waist. The bits of flesh that stick out from behind the armor show the dwarf's skin to be darkly tanned and leathery, belying his origin as a Pahmet dwarf.

As he enters and sees the tengu, the dwarf grunts a brief introduction,"Rhundra Gherrandro," before he plops down in a chair and waits.

The tengu startles as the dwarf suddenly enters, immediately locking his feathered arms behind his back, playing innocent. "Shiikta my name be," he squawks, as he inclines his head in a slight bow.

He then steps away from the desk, retreating into a corner of the room.

Entering the room, Toryn notes the presence of a dwarf and what looks to be a large bird, a tengu perhaps? Unsure what to do he takes a seat facing the door. "I assume you are here to see Lady Heidmarch as well?"

Next to arrive in the room is a striking young woman with braided shoulder-length orange-red hair. As the enters the room, the smell of the sea seems to blow in through the door with her. "Ahoy mateys and...er, birds. This be the briefing with Sheila? I be Captain Morgan...but since I be without a ship at the moment, you can just call me Nelenna." She then makes her way to the side of the room with a confident gait and leans casually against the wall while they wait.

Still haven't found the time to fully update her stats. It is a long weekend down here in Australia today so very busy with family stuff.

Jasmeen enters the sitting room and notes the assembled Pathfinders. "This should be an interesting mission - two clerics and myself. I wonder if this is more of a religious mission." she thinks.

"Greetings colleagues. My name is Jasmeen Kellach - I've just arrived from Kaer Maga, so it seems that Varisia is becoming a new base for me." she says with a smile.

Only half paying attention, as Rhundra hears the words 'Captain Morgan', he perks up and barks out a few words. "Captain Morgan? Nuthin' but watered down ale made by elves! Ye want a good tankard, dry dwarven mead!"

Nelenna breaks into a hearty laugh at Rhundra's comment. "Aye, little matey! Dwarven ale t'is a mighty fine grog...strong too, as ye say! Never met a dwarf I couldn't drink under the table with it though." She looks the cleric up and down and winks. "...with you lad, I might not even have to get me lips wet!"

Bustling through the door suddenly Sheila Heidmarch strides purposefully in the office and takes a seat behind her desk. Glancing up at the group she references a sheet in front of her and frowns.

My missive said there were going to be six of you. You lose someone along the way? She looks up inquiringly at the group, but then presses on without waiting for an answer. I've GeekMailed Kim, but haven't heard back. We'll press on regardless.

Lissala is the Thassilonian goddess of runes, fate, and obedience. Her followers are wicked and secretive, but they can be bought for the right price. The Aspis Consortium offered that price. In exchange for creating a back door into the Hao Jin Tapestry—a museum demiplane that we Pathfinders thought was entirely our own—the Aspis Consortium promised a river of wealth to the secretive cult. The Pathfinder Society ejected the Aspis Consortium from the Hao Jin Tapestry and the Consortium defaulted on its contract with the cult of Lissala. As you might expect from followers of a goddess of duty, the Lissalans are irate at the Aspis Consortium for defaulting. Tensions between the two groups are at their breaking point, and I need you to finish the job.

Vidrin Jenk is a silver agent in the Aspis Consortium, newly arrived in Riddleport and anxious to prove his worth to the organization. The Aspis Consortium recently purchased the Barracuda Cartage company, and Jenk operates out of the offices there. Jenk plans to patch up relations with the cult of Lissala, which is well hidden somewhere in Riddleport. To help him, Jenk requisitioned a group of Aspis Consortium specialists—all bronze agents led by a mysterious troubleshooter named Thestil Shadowtongue."

At this point, Venture-Captain Heidmarch slides several bronze badges across the desk, some flecked with blood. “Those specialists aren’t going to make it to Riddleport. You are. I want you to pretend to be the Aspis Consortium agents Jenk requested. Do as he asks, but only to keep suspicion off of you until you find out where the cult of Lissala is hiding. Once you know that, I need you to do two things. First, sabotage the Lissalan safe house as completely as possible. Second, throw the blame for the sabotage onto the Aspis Consortium.

How you complete these tasks I leave to your discretion, but I want you to keep murder to a minimum. One of the Lissalan cultists is feeding us information, and I don’t want to risk you killing this valuable source. Furthermore, we want the Lissalans to remain alive so they can turn their full ire against the Aspis Consortium. Once you’ve accomplished these two mission objectives, return here.
Heidmarch smiles broadly. "Welcome to the Aspis Consortium. Any questions before you leave for Riddleport?”

Shiikta's beady eyes glitter at the bronze badges that venture-captain Heidmarch presents. "Shiikta wonders how these badges were acquired," the creature asks. "Also, this informant... can him... or her, be recognized?"

Sheila turns to Shiikta with an appraising eye. Not afraid of a little blood are you? Rest assured that those agents won't be missed.

As for our informant, well, we know very little. The informant is a cleric, is probably human, and has been feeding us reliable intelligence. We don’t know any more than that. That’s one reason you shouldn’t indiscriminately kill everyone in the safe house.

I'm not concerned with who acts the role of Thestil, just as long as someone does. Jenk is expected Thestil and his crew, and that's all he knows.

The best part of this is that Jenk doesn’t know anything about Thestil Shadowtongue other than by reputation. Thestil is known to be a loyal Aspis Consortium agent, but goes to great lengths to remain mysterious and anonymous. Almost no one knows what race Thestil is, or even whether Thestil is a man or a woman. I recommend that your best liar claim to be Thestil Shadowtongue, and that he or she emphasizes Thestil’s ‘enigmatic spy’ reputation.

If you're curious though, and I know I was, Thestil was a fetchling. But very few people knew that outright, certainly not Vidrin Jenk, so you're in the clear.

If a few Lissalans get roughed up, so much the better. However it's important you don't start killing or attacking Aspis members. Remember, your task is to cast blame on the Aspis Consortium, not eradicate it. If the Consortium suffers several suspicious deaths at the same time the Lissalan safe house is sabotaged, it will implicate a third party. I can’t have that. Play nice and don’t blow your cover.

"So a game of bluff, rather than diplomacy. Well that rules me out." Jasmeen pipes up. "Perhaps you are best suited for this Nelenna. As Sheila said there is nothing to say that Thestil is not a woman."

Nelenna seems taken aback at the suggestion. "I be not afraid a leadin'. I've lead me crew, may their souls rest in peace, through many a trial and to many a booty...and in the end I lead them all to their death." Nelenna takes a moment to reflect on her loss. "But lyin? No, that's not for me...I'd rather look a man in the eye and tell him I'll run 'im through rather'n put on an act! I'd say you would be best, Jasmeen...you don't give yourself enough credit. You almost 'ad me believin' I was the one for the job...I'm sure bein' this Thestil would be a walk in the park for one such as you!"

I think Jasmeen may have the best bluff at a princely +3. Nelenna's stat is only +0, I had it recorded incorrectly but have now fixed it.

The journey to Riddleport is a quick one, and after several days on board a merchant ship you disembark in the seedy port at sundown. The Barracuda Cartage proves easy to find, and in the guise of Aspis Consortium agents the group approaches. Despite the late hour, the up-and-coming trade house is lively as ever.

The Aspis Consortium’s headquarters in Riddleport is a dilapidated compound showing signs of recent repair. The cartage company’s main building rises three stories above the filthy streets. Behind this
main building stands a coach-house large enough for four wagons. A weedy yard is enclosed by a high brick wall, but the large wooden doors to the yard stand open to admit new business, even in this evening hour. Beside the doors, a wooden sign reads, “Barracuda Cartage. Under
New Management.”

A group of six armed thuggish looking me loiter in the loading yard, overseeing a dozen laborers loading carts with a large shipment of fine sailcloth. Quieting as the Pathfinders approach, they stare suspiciously at the newcomers.
