Adventures on Tékumel is a complete roleplaying system.
Part One: Growing Up in Tsolyánu provides a character generation system for the basic attributes and skills from birth to adolescence. A complete character can be developed using Part One: Growing Up in Tsolyánu by going through the lifepath system in the book several times (from age 15 until age 20.) Optionally, the player may take their character through some of the stories in the Part Two books to gain additional experience and skills.
Part Two/Volume One: Coming of Age in Tsolyánu, Part Two/Volume Two: Beyond the Borders of Tsolyánu and Part Two/Volume Three: Into the Underworlds of Tsolyánu offer solitaire adventures in a choose-your-path style for further development of the character generated in Part One: Growing Up in Tsolyánu. The entries in these books are a fair bit longer than the entries in a typical choose-your-own adventure. The player runs their character through a choice of from two to four paths through a series of choices in the programmed story-adventure to receive variable rewards of wealth, experience, skills and additional character details.
The Adventures on Tékumel series of solitaire adventure books is designed to give the player an introduction to the culture of Tsolyánu and Tékumel in general. The player's character is developed as the player learns more about the setting. The solitaire adventures have simple combat and task rules and can be used without reference to the core rules (Gardásiyal).
Gardásiyal: Deeds of Glory is the core rule set for the role playing game, as played with a game master/referee. The rules in the solitaire adventures are very simple and not the same as those used for the full role playing game. Conversely, Gardásiyal doesn't have a character generation system. The solitaire books provide character generation combined with necessary information about the setting.
The Tékumel Bestiary provides descriptions and statistics for use with Gardásiyal: Deeds of Glory. The creatures of Tékumel are unique to this setting and this book is necessary for the game, particularly if the game master is unfamiliar with the Tékumel setting.
