Albert Bierstadt (January 7, 1830 - February 18, 1902) was a German-American painter known for sweeping landscapes paintings of the American West. Born in Solingen, Germany, his family moved to New Bedford, Massachusetts, in 1833. He started painting with oils in 1851 and studied painting with members of the Düsseldorf School in the 1850s. His uncommonly large canvases would dwarf those of his contemporaries. He died in New York City in 1902.
He did one of the cover illustrations for Geografica Mundana for Eon (2nd ed). A portion of his landscaping painting Nevada Falls was used as the cover art for Asharien & Soldarn.
