Age of Valor is a Live Action Role Playing (LARP) game originating in Southern New England in January 1998. The game setting is high fantasy (swords and sorcery). Events have traditionally been day or evening length (as opposed to full weekends).
Boffer melee weapons, boffer projectiles, armor, and shields are employed for combat resolution in a true "lightest touch" system, which is riogrously enforced by referees and community standards. This creates a "tag" system, which sometimes greatly diverges from realism, as speed beats power.
Many player spell abilities require a verbal component, for which each spell specifies the number of words. This creates a time limit on powerful abilities.
While combat is a regular occurance, most events focus on role playing interplay with non-player characters, interaction between players, and puzzle solving.
Dress/costuming is encouraged, but not required.
