"It is the intention of these rules to provide a simple and schematic system for recreating the adventures of Flash Gordon on the planet Mongo. These adventures are free-wheeling and widely varied with the final goal of overturning the evil government of the Emperor Ming the Merciless.
Our schematic or representational outlook simplifies the situation to make a game playable without the extremes of paperwork necessary in most role playing games. For those who enjoy the full detail of role playing campaigns, we provide enough detail and flavor to provide a backdrop which can be added as simple modifications of existing role playing rules systems. Additional complexity in role play can be added without harming the basic structure of the game."
The "Flash Gordon" rpg uses an interesting schematic map to track the player characters' progress throughout the campaign. This schematic abstracts the world map of Mongo into coordinates upon a campaign tracker. This campaign tracker can be used to generate encounters within the various kingdoms of Mongo. The schematic can also be used to track where Ming is allocating resources to stop the PCs as they attempt to overthrow the tyrant.
The rules provide an interesting campaign mechanic that is similar to, but likely unrelated to, the Plot Point system used by many Savage Worlds settings.
