Edit September 7, 2010:

Voting is over - Results are in!
To see the results, go to http://rpggeek.com/thread/559755/the-results-are-in

And a clarification:
Based on a comment below, it has finally occurred to me that people might not know that I didn't write all of these games. There are 32 games, and 32 different authors! I had thought of having each author add their own item, but it wouldn't be fair to those who don't check rpggeek.com very often to have their game left off.

At any rate, I only wrote one of these games. I deliberately left authors' names off so people wouldn't pre-judge an entry based on that.

has done a lot of work getting all the game records loaded, and the 2010 RPG Geek 24 Hour RPGs Series page is also good.

But I figured a geeklist makes for easier access than the Series page - fewer pages to click through. I can also include all the descriptions here, which isn't really possible on the Series page.

So here are the games in alphabetical order. You can use this list to get to the item pages, scroll down to the "Files" section, download the files, and start reading!

From the Game's Introduction:

What is this game about?

Action Home Video (A.H.V) is an unabashed celebration of straight-to-VHS action movies that populated video stores in the eighties. This film genre is known as Actionsploitation.

Okay, what exactly is Actionsploitation?

Everything that is awesome, and at the same time awful with action movies. Each AHV game should be overflowing with machismo, hamfisted plots, terrible one liners, senseless violence, stereotypical portrayals of the human race, explosions, bullets, bad acting, and oh ya BADASSERY!

Most righteous! What do you need to play?

Beer (if of legal drinking age), six-sided dice, paper, pencils (sharpened for use as throwing weapons), bad 80's music, and no dignity.

From the Game's Introduction:

The world of Against the Darkness is very similar to the world we all know. However, bogey men, ghosts, pucks, and other malicious spirits haunt the landscape. The monsters flit through the shadows, striking from closets, laundry chutes, under the bed, and behind trees. Children are their primary food, drawing their sustenance from the hopes, dreams, and creativity of the youngest among us. To make matters worse, adults, most of who were drained by the creatures of darkness years ago, can’t see them. To skeptical parents and others, the haunters are only figments of a child's imagination. They have no idea how serious the threat is.

There are only a few that bravely stand against the growing darkness. For centuries people have commented on their cats staring into corners, dogs barking at nothing in the darkness, birds fleeing right before a disaster strikes, and other strange behavior. Most people would be surprised that the animals aren't insane or merely reacting to bugs or changes in magnetism. In truth, the animals are waging a violent, brutal war against the forces of the Darkness. The future of mankind hangs in the balance.

From the Game's Introduction:

Welcome to And Other Stories, the generic competitive collaborative storytelling game. Have you always wanted to tell a fairy-tale? Do you enjoy giant robots battling it out in zero-gravity? Do you want to write your own police drama on the spot? Well this is the game for you.

Over three Acts, players take turns to frame Scenes using their characters as the Protagonist. Other players can enter the Scene joining him/her as Allies. Each Active player in the Scene takes the narrative reigns in turn and use their characters' Attributes to drive the story forward - each contributing to the unravelling plot as the game progresses. At the end of the Scene the Protagonist and Allies roll Fable dice to make the outcome of the Scene a success. But be warned! The Antagonist will thwart Ambitions, abuse Talents and play up Limitations using the dreaded Foil dice. Will the Protagonist and his Allies prevail over their antagonistic rival? Or will the Scene descend into tumult? As the Scene ends, the lights fade and the spotlight shines on a different Protagonist.

From the Game's Introduction:

In this roleplaying game, the players are animals who encounter adventures while traveling to Bremen to become Town Musicians. To return to their farms is certain death, so they must go onward. It is the job of the gamemaster to give them adventures on the road to Bremen. In the original story, they never get there, but in your story, they might - and have even stranger adventures!

This 24-Hour RPG is a traditional roleplaying game, requiring a gamemaster and at least three six-sided dice (preferably per player).

The player characters are normal animals, without the ability to use tools or weapons. They are assumed to be able to communicate freely with other animals, but not well with humans - no better than real-life animals, anyway.

From the Game's Introduction:

As an old Call of Cthulhu RPG Keeper, I had problems with a percentile dice system. While players could easily determine if they were successful, *how* successful they were often broke the momentum of the game (especially if a player swiped up his dice before I asked!). Dice modifiers were arbitrary (do you divide or have a straight penalty?), as were automatic successes (make sure two players had a 20% to drive a car!)

Here's a quick-and-dirty way of using the Steve Jackson Games Cthulhu Dice die for a storytelling RPG, with variable degrees of success and failure. Note that the rules lean towards the characters succeeding in their skill rolls, necessary in CoC games where missing a clue often stalls the game. The Keeper is also given leeway to advance the plot.

Dicey is a fairly minimalistic roleplaying game which the characters are the dice and the dice are the characters.

User Summary:

Characters are represented by four or more six-sided specialised dice, each face of which represents a skill and characteristic. Succeeding in a task involves rolling dice and trying to match the required skill or characteristic on at least as many dice as the difficulty of the task.

Characters have four characteristics: Physical Strength, Agility, Mental Strength, Education. The value of each characteristic equals the number of faces for that characteristic.

As Charles Dickens would say...

Joshua was dead, to begin with. There is no doubt whatever about that.

However, Joshua had secrets that he took to the grave. And he intends to keep it that way.

Echoes of...
is a GM-less story-telling game system of players wanting something from a ghost who is getting progressively more dangerous as the players get closer to the truth.

From the Game's Introduction:

Welcome to Familiars, a game about playing magical animals serving a Mistress or Master of magic. What are Familiars? They are animals who were formerly normal but who have been gifted with increased intelligence, capabilities, and toughness, as well as magical powers. Gaining sentience somewhere near a sorceror, or perhaps a group of witches, your character was filled with a need to help. They do not know why they suddenly feel this way, but they feel a loyalty to their master(s).

They also see things their master doesn't. That he is dealing with powers that could lead to his corruption destruction. The familiar feels the need to help their master with his goals, but at the same time, they feel a compulsion to stop their master from going too far. How do they help their master? How far will they go to stop him from destroying himself in his arrogance? Will their master ever stop dealing in dangerous magics?

Have you ever met a woman you'd do absolutely anything for? Maybe you have now, but you're one amongst many. What will you do to distinguish yourself from the pack of would-be suitors? What's this mysterious, beautiful stranger's real agenda? Will she be soulmate, or will she cast you aside like a broken toy? Will you even live long enough to remember her fondly in years to come?

Truly, the female of the species is more deadly than the male.

From the Game's Introduction:

GTL: The Jersey Shore role-playing game allows you to become a Guido or a Guidette and experience life as a club-hopping twenty something who lives for nights and weekends. You might have a job, but it's no big deal. You work just enough to pay your bills and make it to the Shore for the weekend. With any luck, you're able to save up enough to spend a week or more at the Jersey Shore for the summer.

The game is more strongly controlled than many RPGs with characters actions governed by the Time Matrix, a weekly schedule of their activities. The Time Matrix is used to control character actions and to help pace the game. It also makes it possible to play the game with no gamemaster if desired.

It's a world where appearance is king and you are who you're with!

From the Game's Introduction:

Though it may have a fantasy setting like many RPGs, players in The Hermetic Order are not a like minded band of warriors going off on adventures together. Instead they are a group of back biting nobles trying to increase their influence and power by twisting the problems they encounter to their own ends and influencing powerful guilds to join their side.

The Hermetic Order is also different to a lot of RPGs in that there is no games master. Instead all players take the roles of player characters and any other characters that arise in play. The players set the scenes and narrate the results of dice rolls and character choices.

The game is also designed as a one-shot play, not for a continuing campaign. Although the players may sometimes work together in the end one noble will rise above the others to win the game.

From the Game's Introduction:

Hop Scotch is a game about human tragedy, misery, World War II drama, and spinning around until you're dizzy!

To play, you need:

* Some place you can safely spin around
* A soft patch of grass to fall on
* Some spheres to represent the Sefirot
* Someone to stay level headed (the GM)

The setting of Hop Scotch is the dark times of World War II. You, and the other players, play characters residing in the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp, on their last legs and at wits end. You are in ill spirits, and know that the end is near, but the bitter-sweet prison wine someone made up is getting you by for tonight.

You've seen the smoke stacks, you've heard horror stories about what awaits you from the guards, and you are living in abject filth. You know that they're coming for you tomorrow. You are too weak to fight. You can barely feel your heart beating in your chest.

From the game's introduction:

People have always looked to the stars for guidance. Astrology is one of the oldest methods of fortune telling, and the stars were named to help sailors and travelers easily find their way at night. The signs are linked to birth, forever marking those born under them with certain aspects and emotions. The stars of the horoscope provide many ways of helping mankind.

But what of those times when mankind, or any creature, needs more than simple guidance? What of those times when the world is threatened? How will the stars help when the very world is in danger?

The stars provide...

There always seems to be a leader when the world needs it most. Generals that lead wars to defeat a great enemy, men and women who fight injustice with the simple means of passive resistance, and everyday people who deal with extraordinary circumstance regardless of whether they may live or die. These people are great in their own ways, but sometimes the world needs a little help from the stars themselves. That's when a Horoscope appears.

This person, be they man or woman, human or alien, appears at a time when the world is in crisis. They can tap into the very stars themselves, using the elements and aspects of the zodiac to help avert disaster. However, they have a limited lifespan. With each zodiac called upon, the Horoscope spirit leaves their body. In essence, they may use their powers twelve times before they pass into nothingness. A Horoscope is a powerful being, but they of limited life and they know this fact. Yet even with this knowledge, they continue on, trying to save the world from the evils that ravage it.

From the Game's Introduction:

Inspired by the high flying adventures of the Lucha Libre world and masked wrestlers, this RPG is as much about wrestling as adventure. In it you take on the role of an honorable Luchador battling their way through a world of corruption and evil ruods inside the ring. Using a point based system to create your Wrestler, you can choose skills and from a number Moves, Holds, and Pins to do battle inside and out of the ring.

You start out in the lowest rungs of La Liga de los luchadores enmascarados, The League of Masked Wrestlers, on a tour that criss-crosses the countryside looking for places to hold matches to you may advance up the rungs and to get yourself ready for the eventual return to the big cities where the real competition will held during the winter. Along the way you will meet other Luchadores both friendly and felonious and quite possibly from the corrupting and cunning counter league of La Liga de los Diablos Magnífico.

Adventures you can have will range from defending towns from invading aliens to wrestling ancient Aztec mummies to possibly saving the world from unknown dark gods all with the power of your Lucha!

The Geek? Yes, it's a good site. But - ah! You should have seen it before the rebranding! It was legible and a joy to read! All gone now, sadly, and so (mostly) am I because of it ...

I'm sorry, I cannot read this site regularly while the intense white background is in effect. I have eye health issues, and this is painful. I'll still make brief visits, largely for trades and rules questions, but my socializing here is done for now

From the Game's Introduction:

The world is full of monsters preying on humanity. You have the chance to fight back, but what are you willing to sacrifice?

In Monster Hunter, each player takes on the role of an agent employed by a government agency that is trying to rid the world of monsters. The characters will have to decide how to balance their gruesome job against their relationships with friends and family, their principles, and their mental and physical health.

Monster Hunter can be played with any number of players, but two to four is the best number. With only one player there is no-one to act as Describer, and with five or more players may have to wait a long time for their turn.

From the Game's Introduction:

Every child knows that monsters are real. Not just thinks, but knows. They know that the Thing Under the Bed is waiting for them to get up in the middle of the night so that it can grab their feet and pull them, screaming, under the bed with it. They know that the Thing in the Closet is waiting for the night when the closet door isn't closed properly and it can come into the bed room and steal the child's soul. They know that the Boogie Man is out there in the dark waiting for the naughty children so he can steal them away, melt their faces and turn them into another boogie man. They know that La Llorona is out their calling their names to lure them into the dark where she can kidnap them and drown them in the river. Every child knows that the monsters are real. Every child knows that the adults have forgotten this.

At some point when every adult grew up they forgot what it was that terrified them in the dark. They forgot the cold sweat as something scratched at the inside of the closet. When their own children cry out about the monsters they tell them monsters are not real. They aren't lying, they just no longer remember the truth.

It's up to the Children to stop the Monsters. No one else can.

Every child knows that they cannot fight the monsters on their own. This is why you and your friends have formed the Monster Hunter's Club. You know that if you can work together you can defeat the monsters in your neighborhood and make the nights safe for every kid at school.

From the Game's Introduction:

Welcome to the 24 Hour Role-Playing Game Naked in Space. Did the title grab you? I hope so. Any nakedness in this game is up to you, but that’s not what it’s about. The 'naked' in Naked in Space is more of a reference to the bare bones rules system, and the 'in Space' because this is Pulp Sci-Fi.

My goal with this quickie RPG is quick and simple rules and a bit of hearty emphasis on fun in a pulp sci-fi setting. And if you don't like pulp sci-fi, so what, dump the setting and use the rules. It's your game. I'm not going to go into the ins and outs of role-playing; I'm going to presume that as you've got this far you know what a Role-Playing Game is so you know what you're looking for and you know what all this nonsense is about.

From the Game's Introduction:

Welcome to Objects and Objectives. While in most role playing games the characters we control are Elvish warriors, grizzled space marines or drunk detectives and go on epic adventures in search of fame and glory in O&O you play as an item and have to manipulate other characters to do your bidding. It is no easy task for those who possess you may wish to destroy you if your dark secrets are revealed.

From the Game's Introduction:

The sea is teaming with stories and adventures. Under the waves is a virtual symphony of life ripe for players to explore with their imaginations. All sea creatures sing - though Lubbers (what ocean-life calls any creatures on land - including humans) can rarely hear it. Each aquatic creature contributes to the overall symphony of the ocean. And what a wonderful symphony it is! If you stand quietly on the beach early in the morning and listen carefully, you can hear it.

Role-Playing is, at the core, "let's pretend". It's not really any different than when you played Cops & Robbers or Cowboys & Indians or whatever other pretend situations you could envision as a kid. Octopus' Garden is a codified set of rules to help govern this world of make believe and turn it into a more structured game. Now, there isn't anything wrong with no-rules make-believe playing - but some may find it rewarding to impose some minimal structure onto the playing and turn it into a game. Octopus' Garden is designed with a minimum of rules which mostly stay out of the way and allow your story to take center stage. Open up your imagination and have fun!

From the Game's Introduction:

Retrospect is a story game inspired by made-for-TV documentaries detailing the rise and fall of rock bands - shows like Behind the Music and Biography. In it you play a member of a rock band that goes from playing sleazy dives and bars to festivals and arenas, and then, like many famous bands, burns out in a blaze of glory. Some of the band members will go on to lead ordinary lives, others will go down darker roads, and some may even pay the ultimate sacrifice. Anything is possible.

Like its name suggests, the game is played as a retrospective: The group will be telling the stories of the major events that shaped the rise and fall of your rock band. These stories can be comedic, dramatic, or even tragic - the best ones will demonstrate all of these qualities. As such it's much more of a collective story telling game than a traditional RPG because many of the scenes and narratives will take place as stories being told about things that happen in the past rather than in the here and now.

Retrospect
is a GM-less game that can be played in one to two sessions: Some games will last only a couple of hours, others might take longer depending on how many players you have, how much depth the individual scenes go in to as well as whether or not your band implodes from internal or external forces. As a GM-less game it is a prep-less game - no prior preparation aside from some minor printing and cutting is needed.

From the Game's Introduction:

Roleplaying in the mind of the Great Bard

Shakespearead
is a narrative-drive roleplaying game in which the players are ideas for characters floating around in Shakespeare‟s head waiting to be written. As they unfold the plot put before them by The Muse, the characters will take roles in the story that they build. By the end of a session, a new Shakespeare play will have been born.

From the Game's Introduction:

In this game the players are apprentices to a mighty sorcerer. They live with him in his mansion on the edge of a small town. Today he is out on business and has entrusted the apprentices to finish a magical potion he is brewing in his laboratory. Normally this would be an easy task but yesterday the sorcerer caught the apprentices doing something bad and as a punishment he transformed them all into animals. The apprentices' only hope of being transformed back is to skillfully finish the magical potion in time. Failure is not an option but it is not easy gathering ingredients or working in a laboratory when you are in the shape of an animal.

From the Game's Introduction:

Tyrathia, a newly formed world, has begun to spawn life in its most simple forms. But before even the first sparks of life ignite, three Gods from a distant plane arrive, with the thought of claiming the world as their own. Each escaping their home for different reasons, they attempt to share the planet and to live in separate regions. For many years, the three Gods are content as they help to shape the world around them. But one by one, they all began to believe that they should rule over the others. What started as talks quickly became battles and so began the war.

For thousands of years, the new races fought in the name of their creators until most of those suited for war had fallen. All of the races and the gods saw extinction on the horizon and called for a truce.

A few millennia have pasted since the end of the second war. The descendants of the gods are very different now. Instead of being comprised of a single God, they have all started to assimilate into one another. They now share traits of all three Gods. They no longer wish to conquer the world for a single God, instead they wish to conquer it for themselves. Thus began the Third War. The creatures of the world now battle each other in petty battles over land, resources or dominance.
