2014 Challenge: Play 10 Games 10 Times Each

2015 Challenge: Play 10 Games 10 Times Each
For 2013, I participated in the challenge to play all my unplayed games, which wasn’t easy since, like many people, I kept buying more. But I feel good in having met the spirit of the challenge in consciously keeping up with the new games I bought through my own tracking geeklist. I even focused on replaying games, but usually only once.
This left me with an empty feeling, of not being able to get into the meat of some of the games. We hardly ever play a game more than a couple of times before we move on to something else. And I don’t want to do that this year. Nope, this year I’m going to focus on replaying games a lot and getting into the strategy of them. It’s not going to be easy, especially with fantastic new games always coming out, but I’m going to pick 10 and stick with it.
2/25/14 Rules Changed - Read the bolded sections carefully!
If you’re interested in joining me in this challenge, it’s pretty easy to do so and may even hold some small prizes at the end. Anyone can join at any time in 2014.
1. Add an item, either a game from your list or create your own Geeklist and enter its ID.
2. In the comment form for the item, write down your ten games.
3. Under each game, write 1-10 to track the number of plays or use stars.
4. When you play the game, enter the date next to the highest empty number (if you want to).
5. You may include any plays that happened in 2014, even if they were before you joined the challenge.
6. If you don't like a game on your list, you may add a new one to your list. You can do this change as many times as you like. As long as you play 10 games 10 times by the end of the year, it doesn't matter if it was the original 10 you chose to list. If you do change a game, please send a Geekmail to BK (user:Vacabck) as he's collating data on this challenge.
The game list must be finalized by midnight of December 31st, 2013. Except those who join in 2014, your list must be finalized before you begin tracking games. No plays before joining count towards this challenge.
7. The challenge starts January 1st, 2014 and ends December 31st, 2014. Do not count any games played before January 1st, 2014 or after December 31st, 2014.
8. When you have completed the challenge, played all 10 games 10 times, send me a GeekMail with a link to your item on this Geeklist. (Click on the number of your entry and it will give you a permanent hyperlink.)
9. If you have any questions, please send me a Geekmail or post in the comment section at the very bottom of this Geeklist. Due to my current health issues, I cannot keep up with how big this list has become. I do want to be here to help, but I just don't have time to regularly read through every page.
Note: If you want to enter the challenge more than once, it is allowed. You may create as many lists of 10 as you like. However, to make it fair for those whom this is a real challenge, prizes will be awarded for the completion of one list, not each list.
At the end of 2014, I’ll review the entries and anyone who has completed the challenge will get a prize. I’m going to start with Geek Gold. I’m putting in 20 GG to get started and will add to it any GG donated to this Geek List. The total amount will be split among those who succeed at the challenge. While I will be tracking my progress here, I will not be eligible for the prizes. And depending upon how the year goes, I may include more prizes, but no promises right now.
Jamey Stegmaier has donated a copy of Euphoria: Build a Better Dystopia to be given to one random person who completes the challenge. Thanks so much Jamey!
Darrell Louder has donated a copy of Compounded with Compounded: Chemical Chaos to be given to one random person who completes the challenge. Thanks so much Darrell!
Eric Jome (user:cosine) will give 50 GG to anyone who succeeds on the challenge with more than 5 games that were published before 2004 on their list. No games released in 2004 count. It is okay to play a new edition of a game if the original came out before 2004.
BK (user:Vacabck) will give 63 GG to the participant with the most entertaining thread/geeklist chronicling their 10x10 journey. This will be decided by him. Check for his thumb on your GeekList to see if he's tracking it. If not, send him a GeekMail.
Mark Walker (user:Mark Holt Walker) of Lock 'n Load Publishing (www.lnlpublishing.com), will donate two boxed games to one participant that completes the challenge with at least 5 war games in the 10 games. The winner will be selected randomly.

I completed it too!
Thanks to Pasi Ojala, we have the following, mostly accurate, stats:
889 total users
1,644 different games
10,321 total in 922 items
4 empty or not understood lists
286 users completed the challenge (as of 1/24/15)
32% of users completed the challenge
Let me know if you have any questions. Hope you’ll consider joining the challenge, but most importantly – play games!
--If you play a game multiple times in a row, each completed game counts as a play. Partial games do not count, but can be added together to count as whole games.
--Feel free to include expansions in your games. I would recommend to record plays under the base game, though, and not have an entry for the expansions themselves. The exception is game expansions that can be played on their own. One example is Dominion since you can play each expansion as it's own focus as long as you have the base cards.
--Any games in a series still count as their own game. For example, the Tempest line of games. However, the exceptions are D&D, 18xx, Dungeon Command, Heroscape and GMT Coin. Brass and Age of Industry can be on entry as well. If you think of any other exceptions, please let me know.
--If you feel that step 3 & 4 above will make your entry too long, feel free to record it some other way such as using 10 stars in a row or just recording the number of plays instead of a vertical list with dates.
--Feel free to play your games in any order that you like. You don't have to start with #1 and play all 10 games before going to #2. Unless that is how you want to do it.
--Role-playing games count. Each session counts as a play. So if you meet 10 times, that's 10 plays.
--For games that have scenarios, playing through a scenario counts as a play.
--Online/digital games count regardless if you are playing against a person or the computer AI. The game just has to be a digital implementation of a physical board game.
