After serving as an excellent curator of the RPG Question of the Day for the last three years, Mavis101 has opted to step down and let someone else take up the task of the daily interrogative.

Patrick Zoch has take on the role of curator. You should subscribe to The big QOTD Summary and Subscription Thread Volume 3 to keep up with the latest questions.

Many thanks to Mavis101 for his hard work these last three years. He improved the questions overall and found a way to eliminate everyone's least favorite recurring question.

Good luck Patrick, we're looking forward to your tenure as curator.

For those keeping track, the QOTD began it's 8th year on November 12, 2017. Many congratulations to the askers, the suggesters, and most importantly, the answerers of all those questions.

A few odds and ends to report today. Don't forget that you've still got time to join the RPGGeek Secret Cthanta Holiday Exchange (despite the name, this is not for Cthulhu lovers only!). If anything in the news this year has piqued your interest, and you didn't pick it up along the way, now is the chance to have someone else get it for you!

As always, if you saw anything I didn't, please drop a note in the comments to let everybody know about it!

Not totally sure about this one. Impressions is listing Cold & Dark as a new release this week, but I'm not sure exactly what's new. The PDF was out in 2012 (according to our database, at least) and Bruce reported that Leisure Games was listing a physical copy available back in 2014 (even though the print edition in the database lists a 2017 publication). Anyone know more about this than I do? It's from Modiphius Entertainment, now, although the earlier info lists Wicked World Games 1.1 as well. (Source: Impressions)

Speaking of Modiphius, they've also got two supplements out for Mindjammer. The Core Worlds and The Mindjammer Companion are the latest books to expand your options. (Source: Modiphius)

From Gallant Knight Games, there's Cold Shadows, a storytelling game of espionage, etc. that sounds a bit like Spione: Story Now in Cold War Berlin. PDF only available for now, not sure if there are any plans for a POD edition as well. (Source: DriveThruRPG)

New Chaosium licensee Trepan has released a PDF copy of The Haunted Clubhouse: The Little Play House of Horrors for Call of Cthulhu (7th Edition). It's advertised as a "lethal and harrowing adventure," but then again, what CoC worth the name isn't? A POD edition is supposedly forthcoming, but this is currently available on DTRPG. (Source: Chaosium)

Mutant Chiron Games, the publishing label of RPGGeek's own Karl Larsson, has released Dead for the Living (not in the database yet?), a game about ghosts, regrets, and tough decisions, in which players are Death Knights, a kind of ghost police, who patrol the afterlife making sure that other ghosts follow the law...sounds fun! (Source: Karl!)

There is a lot going on at the geek as the year winds to a close. Chief among these are a number of holiday exchanges, but that's not all there is.

Even though some of these have trappings of Christmas and Santa, I think most of them are more holiday oriented, so you don't have to be a believer in Christmas to participate. Here's a reminder of some events and opportunities which will end soon.

November 12
There's only about a day left to join the the BGG Secret Santa if you like that sort of thing. It does have a pretty cool microbadge for participants mb

November 14
Two things are slated to end on November 14.

T.O.S.S.E.R. 2017 -- Targets Assigned! will close registration on November 14. This is the geek's white elephant/hand-crafted/just for fun exchange of gifts. Like the others, it is international in scope. There is a microbadge for participating and it is a lot of fun. mb

2017 24 Hour RPG Contest - VOTE NOW. As you can see, votes are being solicited for this year's 24 hour RPG design contest. Thirteen brave geeks took up the challenge of designing a completely new game in just 24 hours. You have until the 14th to read through them and submit your votes to help pick a winner.

November 19
Two things are slated to end on November 19.

2017 Tavern Christmas Card Exchange is in it's 6th annual incarnation. For this exchange you get some names to send some cards to and in return, they send you cards. Like the others, this one is international, but unlike the others, it's unlikely that shipping will be a big expense. Sign up soon so you don't miss out. Another cool microbadge for participating: mb

The 2017 Cthanta Claus (RPG Secret Santa) Gift Exchange. This is the big one (sort of). It's the real deal, accept no substitutes Secret Santa exchange for RPG Geek. If you want to give and get some great Role-Playing Games, this is the one for you. It is international, but there will be lists of game stores in different countries/regions to help keep shipping costs down. I don't think it's approved yet, but there will be a microbadge for this one too.

Is that it?
Well, no, not really. You could always check out
Re: RPGG Challenges That Are Going On Throughout the Year for some other 2017 events like the Review Challenge and some play 5 (or more) challenges.

Another big event happening right now is The Jack Vasel Memorial Fund Auction 2017 (CLOSED) which goes to benefit a gamer-focused charity. The auction has all sorts of games plus some cool one of a kind items and it ends on November 14.

If you're still looking for some more Holiday Cheer, I think you should check out this list of exchanges: MetaList of 2017 Holiday Exchanges.

If I missed something feel free to add it to the comments below.

...for the news. After some consideration, I've decided that Saturday is going to be the best day for me to do the news going forward. No guarantees that I won't change my mind, though! Here's what I saw this past week-ish, and of course, drop a line in the comments to let everyone know about other stuff!

First things first, we've got the third installment of the Ruins of Azlant Adventure Path. Pathfinder #123: The Flooded Cathedral (which is a cool name for an adventure, if nothing else) finds the players investigating a sea hag who threatens their colony, and another menacing - but hidden - danger. From, of course, Paizo Publishing for Pathfinder Roleplaying Game. (Source: Leisure Games)

I still haven't had a chance to try out Starfinder Roleplaying Game, but that hasn't stopped Paizo from going ahead and releasing stuff for it. This week, we've got Starfinder #002: Temple of the Twelve, which is the second installment in the Dead Suns Adventure Path. Players will find themselves seeking a lost elven temple-city on a jungle planet, as they race against other factions to learn more about the secrets of a mysterious asteroid (this adventure sounds like pure pulp nonsense, and I love it). (Source: Leisure Games)

If you're a Through the Breach player, Wyrd Miniatures keeps releasing stuff for you. Up right now, we've got A Stitch in Time (not yet in the database), advertised as a four session adventure that sends players back to the very first days of the Breach. (Source: Leisure Games)

Achtung! Cthulhu gets a new adventure, which is the third installment in the Zero Point campaign. Zero Point 1942: Code of Honour sees players combating something terrifying beneath the streets of wartime Istanbul. From Modiphius Entertainment. (Source: Modiphius)

Seith and Sword is the latest supplement for Fate of the Norns - the description is a little vague, but it appears to be a sourcebook for Eastern Midgard (or, as advertised, "the shores of the Baltic"). Maybe there's an adventure in there as well? From Pendelhaven. (Source: Noble Knight)
