What is GeekGold?

GeekGold (abbreviated GG) is the virtual currency of BoardGameGeek, RPGGeek and VideoGameGeek. Users earn GeekGold by contributing content to the website, and use it to enhance their profile. In the forums GeekGold is often represented by either http://files.boardgamegeek.com/images/bag.gif or http://files.boardgamegeek.com/images/geekgold.gif .

Starting in 2008, for financially supporting BGG, you will receive 1 GeekGold for every dollar you spend. Additionally, spending $15 or more will earn you a patron badge. Spending $25 or more will allow you to block adverts and see previously viewed subscriptions.

Folding@Home. Folding@Home is a distributed computing project designed to further the understanding of protein folding and other molecular dynamics related to protein misfolding and the related disorders such as Alzheimer's, ALS, Huntington's, Parkinson's, and many Cancers. Join the team for a monthly GeekGold reward based on the amount of folding completed..

To see how much GeekGold you have, go to the My Geek menu, select Profile, then click on the GeekStuff tab. On the right you'll see how much GeekGold you've collected, spent and have remaining.

Click on the Collected number to see a breakdown of where and when you earned your GeekGold. GeekGold earned through GeekMod does not show in this breakdown.

Click on the Spent number to see a breakdown of where and when you spent your GeekGold.

GeekGold Exchange Rate

GeekGold holds a difficult to define, but discernible value against the US Dollar since it is sometimes exchanged for games or actual money that has real-world value.
