For our second session of Fiasco we tried out a western style set: Boomtown.
Meet the cast:
Cowboy Henk, the town cowboy who is addicted to Opium, which he gets from Itchy Titchy. He is a church volunteer together with the laundry salon owner.
Itchy Titchy is a Chinese who lives in the local Chinese camp with her brother Itchy Scratchy up in the hills, she has a the cashbox from the Bradford hotel brothel. She sells opium to Henk.
Itchy Scratchy is a Chinese who goes from the camp in the hills and his sister to the town to work in the town laundry. He has a skin disease and different little animals living on him. He owes to old handguns.
The laundry salon owner has a peaceful live in the village and helps out in the church from time to time. But he wants to get rich and thinks of some things but he might have to buy over some officials.
Act One:
1. Cowboy Henk is a drugs addict, he is addicted to Opium and rides out to the Chinese camp in the hills to get his buzz. He doesn’t have a lot of money so he can only afford a small amount of the stuff and gets some bad one as well. This turns out bad as he is having a bad trip and believes his horse wants to kill him. Itchy Titchy decides to keep the horse since Henk already has some debts to pay. 2. Itchy Titchy walks with the horse to Itchy Scratchy and tells him he has to take care of the horse. Going back to tend to her customers the mayor asks for more drugs. She quickly gives him more drugs and he calms down. 3. Scratchy heads out to his work but arrives to late, his is accused off always being to late and the boss isn’t happy with this. He decides to only pay out the Chinese the half of his pay this week until he learns to be on time. 4. The laundry Salon owner and Cowboy Henk meet up in the church, they are in the back and talking about what to do with their lives. They both have a dream to become rich and are thinking of some schemes. Cowboy Henk tells about the Chinese camp and the Opium dealers. He says they must have tons of money there and suggest they would rob the camp off it’s money. They do need a couple of revolvers to pull it off. And maybe they better pay off the sheriff so he drops any charges the Chinese want to lay down on them. However the vicar overhears them and asks for some money so he would keep his mouth shut and they need to do more charity work. 5. Cowboy Henk goes to the sheriffs’ office. The sheriff is already a bit of a racist and after hearing all the bad stuff they are supposed up to he agrees to drop any charges if Henk takes care off the Chinese and their opium business. As he exists the office he sees Scratchy arrive with the sheriffs’ clothes 6. Titchy heads out to the Brothel. She and her brother worked there some years ago before starting up the opium business. They still do business and launder the opium money through the brothel. She brings her new money and takes the cashbox with laundered money with her. 7. Scratchy was at the Sheriffs’ office a bit earlier and overheard the whole plan of Cowboy Henk. He did only pretend to just arrive. After giving the laundry he quickly heads out to the Chinese camp to inform his sister about the plan. His sister decides to give the money from the cashbox to him so that if they do rob it it will be empty. Scratchy rides out of town again but there is a hole in the sack and looses all the money. 8. The laundry salon owner is waiting for Scratchy. He is not pleased that he just went out of town to the camp during his hours. He knows the guy has a pair of revolvers and says that seeing the fact the payment cut doesn’t work he will keep the guns until he starts to do his job the right way. He takes the revolvers away.
The tilt: - Paranoia: Somebody is watching, waiting his turn - Mayhem: An out of Control Rampage
9. Cowboy Henk is waiting at the path to the Chinese camp. He suddenly sees Scratchy pass with a bag of money and all the money is dropping out. After he is gone Henk takes the money and goes to the camp to settle his debt and buy some more Opium. With a buzz he leaves the camp. 10. Flashback: when Titchy worked in the brothel she had an custumer. This was an old Chinese guy with a lot of money. One day she asked how he got all that money and he told her he sold Opium up in the hills. He was thinking of retiring and since he liked Titchy he gave her everything and took his money and went away. 11. The town is in a frenzy, everyone is having skin problems and they all are suspecting their husbands to gotten them a sexual disease and the town blames the brothel they suspect their husbands had gone to. This turns out in a rampage in which they burn down the brothel. They then start thinking about what could have happened next and they turn against the laundry salon where all there clothes are washed. They head over to their but the owner can pinpoint Scratchy as the evil doer. Scratchy is covered in tar and feathers and chased out of the town. 12. The Laundry Salon owner heads over to the church to do some work and meets up with Cowboy Henk. Henk tells him about all the money he has seen. The Chinese must be loaded. The owner tells him about the guns. They decide to go ahead with the plan the next day. 13. The next evening they head over to the Chinese camp and do a hold up. Cowboy Henk shoots his revolver and enters the shop. He asks for the money and the opium. Titchy refuses and recognizes the horse, and the voice of cowboy Henk, she also asks where he got those old revolvers she knows. He hits her on the head takes the cashbox and a bag of Opium. However the cashbox is already empty except for 100 dollars that where he paid most of it. 14. When Titchy gets up and calls for Scratchy he comes out still in tar and feathers. He asks her what happened as he sees her bruises. She asks what he did with that bag of bad Opium and realizes that Henk took it. She also asks to give back the money and then he has to admit he has lost it. 15. Getting back in his bathtub Scratchy realizes he is not alone, the vicar comes out of the shadows and talks to Scratchy. He always liked Scratchy and found that the man was very unfortunate. He has a lot of money coming and wants to take him with him and take care of you. Scratchy agrees. 16. In the church Henk and the Laundry saloon owner count the money but find out they only have 100 dollar and a bag of Opium. The vicar and the sheriff aren’t happy and the sheriff being promised that the Chinese would be dealt with. The sheriff pulls his gun. The saloon owner aims and fires but his gun explodes and takes off part off his hand. The vicar get shot down as well as the sheriff and they both run out.
Aftermatch:
Cowboy Henk takes out a deputy and a beggar he meets outside before jumping on his horse and riding off. However the bad trip gets back and he looks as his horse wants to kill him. So he shoots his horse in the head, the animal drops dead right when a group off US Cavalry passes. They arrest him and the next week he is hanged.
Itchy Titchy wants to put down a charge against cowboy Henk but has to admit it was from selling Opium and gets arrested herself. The rest of her life is rather miserable.
Itchy Scratchy sees the vicar getting shot and afraid he has to take care off himself he robs the church and runs out while the US Cavalry arrives and he spends a couple off years in the jail.
Laundry Salon Owner runs out and dies to his severe wounds from the gun. He bleeds to his death.
All in all we had fun but we found out that it was a bit harder to play this one out then we had the last time. One of our players who has a great imagination wasn’t there and the story was put out really in the beginning so that it was hard to come up with good scenes and link things together. But we had fun anyway and in the end that’s what counts.
