I choose to stage a scene.
Characters: Millicent and Malaki
Location: School Corridor
Scene: Someone is threatening to tell our parents about Millicent's dreamweed problem.
"Okay, okay, there's no one here? What is it?" Malaki asked, a little breathless from being rushed through the halls.
They were in a seldom used corridor that led to the fallen tower. It was damp and cold, the echoes of their foot falls fading away to nothing. If Millicent wanted to speak in private this was the place.

"I need your help. Remember how you showed me how you could make your handwriting look like Dad's? Could you do that for me, as a favor? Could you write a note getting me out of classes for two days later this week, Thursday and Friday, to be exact?"
Millicent quickly tucked a lose strand of hair behind her ear, then handed Malaki some money. Her eyes seemed to take in everything in the hallway but he brother's face. She shoved both hands into the pockets of her robes and took a step back while Malaki decided what to do.

Malaki looked at the note in one hand and the money in the other hand. She had handed him eighty, just to forge their dad's signature. He did that all the time.
He pulled out a pen and forged his father's name onto the form, missing the reaction on Millicent's face as he did it. Then he handed her the note and slipped the money in his pocket.
"Just remember if you get found out I had nothing to do with this."
Suddenly a loud bang tore into the quiet hall, the echo going on forever. And then they could hear footfalls coming down the hall towards them.

"Oh, syphilitic snails! It's him!" Millicent whispered in a hurry before lightly shoving her brother toward the end of the hall from which the footsteps were coming.
She scurried toward the ornate bench at the other end of the hall as Malaki heard someone coughing quite close to him. He turned to look and saw the person come into view. He took one more look at Millicent, who'd taken a seat on the bench, had her history of magic textbook out, and was looking at him in innocent confusion, as if he'd had something to do with the noise that had just interrupted the quite of the hallway.
-
-
The man stared at Malaki right in the eyes for a long time. Malaki was immersed in the icy deepness coming from the eyes of the most frightening professor of the school, the terror of every single student. Breathing became harder and harder as he started freezing and drowning.
Finally he managed to look away, or the professor let him go. Malaki was bent double as he gasped for air. The tall man looked at Millicent, who was peeking at him from above the upside-down textbook.
Their eyes met.
"Well?" asked he in a glacial tone.

"Hello, Professor. Did you hear that noise? It was rather loud. Malaki was just about to investigate, but now that you're here I can see that you're better suited to the task. See you in class!"
With that, Millicent got up from the bench, made her way quickly to her brother's side and lightly grabbed his elbow. Together they turned to exit the area.
"Not so fast, you two." The professor gestured for Malaki to come closer. "Your pocket is glowing red, Malaki. Let me see what's in it."
Malaki put his hands in his pocket and pulled out a package full of Dream Flower petals. He glances at his sister who looks disappointed and sad. There is not one bit of guilt in her face. Not once little smidgen to show she's sorry for this.
-
-
The professor slowly raised his thin black eyebrow in direction of Malaki.
Millicent could swear that the man's mouth was slightly bowed in an evil smile.

Malaki looked at the petals in his hands. Dreamweed. That damnable dreamweed. He had known Millicent had been expermenting with it for a few months now? But to pawn it off on him? They had always been so close, and now he was just a way out of trouble for her.
"That's not mine." But it sounded ridiculous, even to Malaki's ears. He would get even with Millicent for this one.

Professor Dane looked at Malaki as if he were the lowest form of life.
"You will accompany me to the headmaster's office. You will not say one word. If you are lucky you will be detoxed, your parents will be notified, I am sure you will be placed on probation, and I will make certain you serve detention until the semester ends. A detention I will personally oversee."
Malaki was left no choice but to follow Professor Dane down the hall. The professor had grabbed his ear between vice like fingers. He then kept such a vigorous pace that Malaki often tripped, only to be dragged back onto his feet, by his ear. Behind him he could hear the tittering giggle of his oh so innocent sister.
True to his word Professor Dane saw each threat enacted. His parents were in the headmasters office within the hour, and were furious with him. "I did not raise my children to be common drug addicts," raged his father. It was his mother who said, "Why can't you be more like Milli, she's such a good girl." At that point Malaki laughed, only raising the ire of every adult in the room.
Though on one respect Professor Dane had been wrong. Malaki was not given detention for the remainder of the semester, he was instead given detention for the remainder of the year. It would of course be overseen by Professor Dane.

Jade is hanging at her usual perch in the Owlery, reading the newest catalogue from the discount magicians' emporium, scrawling notes in preparation for her next big order (just a few more items to qualify for free shipping)..
"Quiet day for business" she says to herself, "probably for the best as I'm running low on most items."
-
-
In the meantime Professor Dane is walking down a corridor towards the Owlery, followed by James and Malaki. The Professor grips Malaki's harm and menacingly whispers:
"You go there and ask her to follow you here with an excuse. As soon as she comes through the door, James and I will curse her. And then ask questions, maybe. No jokes, boy, or I'll do that trick with the eyes again. And I won't stop until your tongue grows blue." James takes his wand out of the robe. The teacher is holding Malaki's wand in his left hand.

Jade hears footsteps approaching. Doesn't pay attention until she realizes the person has stopped in from of her. She raises her eyes from book and sees Malaki.
"Hey kid. Don't see you around these parts very often? What's up?"

"Hey kid. Don't see you around these parts very often? What's up?"
"I need some help. That forgery quill you gave me was confiscated and now I really need one to get out of a jam. You got anything?"
Malaki tried not to look nervous as he worked to betray Jade.

"You know that I don't like selling my stuff to the younger kids. That quill was just a favour for your sister. I owed her one. Besides, I thought that you were a good kid that liked to stay out of trouble. You know that if you got caught with some of the things that I sell, you'd be in big trouble. Although by the sound of your voice, you seem to already be in a jam. Do you have something in particular in mind?"

James listens intensely to what is being said, trying ever so hard not to make a noise. Boy - does he hope that the words "Truth" and "Serum" don't come out in the same sentence.
Although maybe it would be safer in the hands of Professor Dane...

"Why so quiet kid? You're all sweaty and trembling? Do you need some Cooling Pills? I don't want you getting me sick if you have a fever."

"Why so quiet kid? You're all sweaty and trembling? Do you need some Cooling Pills? I don't want you getting me sick if you have a fever."
Malaki stopped himself from turning to look back where the others where hiding.
"I'm just worried, if I don't get that quill my parents will find out about the dreamweed and they will pull me out of here. If I can't get their signatures they will throw me out. You have to help me out here."
The owls hooted their protest as the volume of Malaki's voice rose. For the hundredth time he swore he would get even with Millicent for this.

"Like I told you when I sold you that other quill, it was my last one. Those are popular items this time of the year. Everyone's writing themselves doctor's notes to get out of taking the wizardry exams. I'm waiting on a shipment from the Warlock's Warehouse, but until I get that I can't do anything for you.
And what are you saying about dreamweed? Are you into that stuff? You know that it's nothing but trouble. I guess that would explain why you were accompanied by your friends" As she says this she points to the wall behind Malaki which shows the perfect projection of Professor Dane and James, wands ready. Quite the elaborate set of mirrors and a telescope that let Jade see around the corner. "Gotta protect my livelihood" she says with a wink. "Anyway, it seems like your problems are much worse than I had thought. Tell me the whole story and maybe we can figure something out."
-
-
"Damn!" whispered Professor Dane.
"At my three... And you, remember that nice painful curse I taught you!"
"One..."

Malaki's head fell as Jade pointed out the mirrors that revealed Professor Dane, and James. He was most definitely up a creek now.
As Malaki racked his brain for some way to salvage this nightmare situation he saw just the slightest movement from the corner of the wall. The jig was up. Before any other thoughts could run through his head, Malaki was writhing on the ground in excruciating pain.

"Well this isn't my problem," Jade thought to herself as she slipped back through one of her many dark secret passageways in the Owlery. "I'll come back when things cool down a bit."
-
-
"She's slipping away! You damn fat boy, go take her back while I deal with this good-for-nothing idiot!" Yelled Professor Dane.
James recklessly flung himself into the passageway.

I choose to stage a scene.
Characters: James and Jade
Location: Owlery passages
Scene: James trying to recover the Truth Serum.
"Fat boy" was hardly the word James would use to describe himself. You don't get to be football team captain by being fat. Maybe he'd put on a few pounds - but he was hardly out of shape.
He was hot on the heels of the dealer - but he wasn't after her for any other reason than to track down the Truth Serum. He couldn't care less about Dreamweed - Malaki was just a bit unlucky to be caught with it...
James dashed down the passageway and thought he saw Jade dash down a side passage - but having got there - all he saw was a slightly muddy footprint.

Jade knew that she was more familiar with these passages than anyone but was still curious as to what all the fuss was about. While keeping out of his sight, she called out to James,
"What do you want fat boy?" stressing the insult because she could guess how much is bothered him.
