OOC stands for "out of character" This is where we'll discuss things that aren't directly part of the game. To start with, I think we need some introductions since I don't know most of you.
My name is Steve and I've been playing RPGs for about 30 years, so yes, I'm old I haven't played very much Pathfinder, but I've played a ton of D&D 3.0 and D&D 3.5, which are a part of the root of the system.
My job is to be the gamemaster. Different people will define that word differently but my definition says that it's my role to help tell a fun story while everyone has a good time. I'm going to try to stick to the rules as written (RAW) because I think that's important any time you play a game for the first time..
What I'd like is for each of you to tell us a little about yourself and what you're hoping to get out of the game. The thing I'd most like to know is if you've played Pathfinder or other RPGs before and if you own any rulebooks. It would also be helpful if you told us when you were most likely to be able to post and if there are times (like weekends) when you won't be around.
I'm able to post most days between about 8am and midnight. I can't always find time before 6pm (work and all) but I can often answer quick questions).
My plan is for us to work together to create characters and then start playing. We'll add rules as we go. I think it works a little better than everyone going off and then coming back with their own character and suddenly everyone is playing a fighter with a longbow.
One more warning, I'm running a second table of this game, so don't get confused!
We ended up with 8, not 6, but we'll be fine - I'll just add some water to the soup. The players in this game are:

Hi. I am Brett. I have been boardgaming for several years. One thing I have never done that I have been wanting to do for a while is play a tabletop RPG. So I was kind of excited to see this post and get in on a game. I am not a stranger to the books. I have owned some and read others (D&D 2nd through 4th). I am here to have fun and I hope that everyone else has fun also.
I will be able to post almost any time of the day but my midnight to 8 in the morning (EST) is reserved for sleep.

Hey all, I'm Thomas. I have been out of the RPG scene for a while but still have many of my DnD 3.5 books and faerun books. I am curious about what pathfinder has in store for us. Please take care of me on this journey.
The times I am usually on are about 9am to 11pm but for the next few days that will change because I need to take care of my family (tmi but my wife is going to be bedridden for a little while). So when I can I'll check the site.
And its a pleasure to meet you all!

Hey All. I'm Steve and I haven't touched DnD since the original red box (AD&D?) back in the day. Not even sure we played it correctly back then and I thought I'd give the game another shot with someone who knows what they're doing. BTW, thanks for putting this together! I've never tried PF before but I did pick up the beginner set. And I should be able to post between 11am and midnight.

Greetings! I'm Marcus. I've been playing various games all my life. I've played more systems than I can count.

Another Steve here. I started playing RPGs with the original white box D&D. Played a lot up through the AD&D 1st edition. Played a little 2nd and 3rd edition. I'm not playing any RPGs actively anymore but would like to get back into it. Fair amount of board games, pretty much only face to face.
I haven't done this Play by Forum thing before so I'm interested to see how it works out. I can usually check on things a couple of times a day and almost always in the evenings. Weekends are fine as well.
I have the Pathfinder core book and am familiar with the rules but have not played much using them.

Hello all. I played AD&D for about 20 years but haven't touched an RPG in 12 years. Yeah, that makes me old too.
I never played D&D 3e (or 2e or 4e for that matter), so I'm interested in seeing how the system has progressed into Pathfinder.
I'm in the US, eastern time. Will do most of my posting on my lunch hour but should be able to respond to quick items (combat?) throughout the day. I don't tend to be on the computer in the evenings.
No clue how this PBF stuff works, but I'm interested to give it a go!

Hello all, my name is Rafael and I am from São Paulo, Brazil, I've been roleplaying since 94, started with AD&D 2E and went through a ton of games, like Vampire: The Masquarade, Paranoia, Castle Falkenstein, Mage: The Awakening, D&D 3E, etc.
Nowadays I'm running Masks for CoC and Old Dragon, a Brazilian RPG that is part of the OSR. I've never played Pathfinder, I own several AP's and enjoy them.
I am normally online between 7 and 10pm EST.
I hope my poor english isn't a barrier so we can all enjoy the game together.

Okay, I think that's most everyone.
At this point we're going to start generating characters.
The first step is to roll 4d6 and ignore the lowest one; this will generate a number from 3 (which is really low) to 18, which is really high.
We can use the geek die roller for this. If you haven't used it before it will appear when you reply to this message. It's a button next to font size that says Roll. It can do a lot of things. For right now, we're just going to use it roll 4 six-sided dice and drop the lowest. When you click it, enter 4d6l in the Roll field and then click Add Roll. Do this six times. If you have any trouble let me know.
Here's what it looks like when you post it: Roll 1 4d6l = (2 + 6 + 3 + 3) = 12 Roll 2 4d6l = (6 + 2 + 5 + 1) = 13 Roll 3 4d6l = (2 + 4 + 4 + 4) = 12 Roll 4 4d6l = (1 + 3 + 1 + 2) = 6 Roll 5 4d6l = (4 + 4 + 2 + 3) = 11 Roll 6 4d6l = (6 + 4 + 1 + 5) = 15
For right now, we're just making rhe rolls, we aren't assigning them to ability scores yet. The six ability scores are fairly straightforward.
Strength - measures how strong you are, how hard you hit and how much you can lift.
Dexterity - measures how nimble and quick you are.
Constitution - measures how tough you are and how well you resist getting sick.
Intelligence - this is book smarts and quick thinking.
Wisdom - this is your ability to stick to things. A high intelligence tells you to go on a diet. A high Wisdom lets you do it.
Charisma - This measure how strong your personality is and how good looking you are.
If you want to know more about ability scores, there is a link on the Pathfinder SRD: http://www.d20pfsrd.com/basics-ability-scores/ability-scores...
The SRD is "system reference document" It's not as pretty or complete as the whole rulebook, but it does have all the rules.
The other thing to start thinking about is a class. We need to work together a bit on this part because having a good mix will help you in the game. If everyone has the same skills, then there could be important things you're missing. Also, if you're one of 5 fighters in the group, it may be difficult for you to ever do anything that no one else can.
We are only using the Core Classes. If you want to use the Beginner Box, that means Fighter, Cleric, Wizard or Thief. If you use the Core Rules there are a few more. You can also find a list at: http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/core-classes
Homework: Roll 6 ability scores using the die roller. Each roll is 4d6l
Tell us what kind of class you think you'd like to play. Probably it will stick, but we might have to negotiate a bit if everyone is the same thing or we're missing an important one.

Okay here are my rolls:
4d6 = (1 + 3 + 5 + 2) = 11 4d6 = (2 + 5 + 6 + 3) = 16 4d6 = (3 + 3 + 6 + 6) = 18 4d6 = (2 + 1 + 5 + 3) = 11 4d6 = (4 + 3 + 4 + 2) = 13 4d6 = (2 + 2 + 3 + 5) = 12
And I'm hoping to play a Wizard.
Edit: Here's take two with our GM's approval, since the last was pretty bad.
4d6l = (5 + 5 + 2 + 5) = 15 4d6l = (3 + 3 + 2 + 2) = 8 4d6l = (2 + 6 + 1 + 1) = 9 4d6l = (1 + 4 + 3 + 2) = 9 4d6l = (4 + 3 + 6 + 6) = 16 4d6l = (6 + 5 + 6 + 3) = 17

Roll 1: 4d6l = (3 + 5 + 5 + 1) = 13
Roll 2: 4d6l = (5 + 1 + 1 + 5) = 11 Roll 3: 4d6l = (1 + 5 + 3 + 2) = 10 Roll 4: 4d6l = (2 + 6 + 1 + 4) = 12 Roll 5: 4d6l = (4 + 3 + 6 + 5) = 15 Roll 6: 4d6l = (2 + 6 + 2 + 5) = 13
In rough order of preference, I'd prefer Wizard, Druid, Rogue, Cleric, Ranger. Least interest in Paladin and Bard.

Thomas Wintermute

Roll 1:4d6l = (5 + 1 + 4 + 4) = 13
Roll 2:4d6l = (5 + 4 + 2 + 6) = 15 Roll 3:4d6l = (2 + 2 + 3 + 5) = 10 Roll 4:4d6l = (3 + 5 + 3 + 3) = 11 Roll 5:4d6l = (1 + 1 + 1 + 2) = 4 Edit: Rerolled and got a 14. Roll 6:4d6l = (4 + 5 + 4 + 1) = 13
And here are my rolls.
As for classes
I tend to go for thief/scouts and fighters. just keep a hand on your coin purse.
(after post) >_< this should be fun... now where should I put that 4 O_o

Brett Porter

Roll 1:4d6l = (5 + 6 + 6 + 5) = 17
Roll 2:4d6l = (1 + 1 + 2 + 3) = 6 Roll 3:4d6l = (2 + 5 + 5 + 1) = 12 Roll 4:4d6l = (4 + 5 + 6 + 4) = 15 Roll 5:4d6l = (3 + 2 + 5 + 6) = 14 Roll 6:4d6l = (5 + 6 + 2 + 1) = 13
I am willing to be what people don't want to be. I see people want to be wizards and rogues. I am looking at Ranger, Druid, Monk, Bard maybe Paladin but not so much into Barbarian, Wizard, or Sorcerer.
Lol. I am wondering the same thing thomas...where sould i put that 6.

1: 4d6l = (5 + 2 + 2 + 4) = 11
2: 4d6l = (5 + 3 + 3 + 4) = 12 3: 4d6l = (1 + 1 + 5 + 5) = 11 4: 4d6l = (5 + 6 + 1 + 6) = 17 5: 4d6l = (1 + 5 + 1 + 4) = 10 6: 4d6l = (6 + 3 + 3 + 2) = 12
My class preference is a fighter type or cleric, but I'll play anything.

I just noticed something. When I saw that someone had rolled a 20, it seemed unlikely for a 4D6 drop the lowest roll.

Clicking on the rolls, the dice expand, so you can see if you did this right. Some people seem to have just rolled 4D6, not 4D6|. Figured it was worth mentioning now since we're all new to the dice rolling syntax, and we haven't made any decisions yet.

2 - 4d6l = (4 + 6 + 6 + 1) = 16 3 - 4d6l = (5 + 6 + 5 + 6) = 17 4 - 4d6l = (2 + 1 + 1 + 3) = 6 5 - 4d6l = (4 + 2 + 2 + 2) = 8 6 - 4d6l = (1 + 1 + 6 + 1) = 8
EDIT: Reroll for roll 4 - 4d6l = (6 + 2 + 4 + 5) = 15
I'll play anything. I'm usually the one who picks last because I tend to fill in the holes and play what nobody else wants to at that moment.

And I'm hoping to play a Wizard. You need to put a lower-case L after 4d6 so that it drops the lowest die ("4d6l").
