Ezren notices the Dwarf is leering at him with a confused look on his face.
"Gruff !, are you too drunk to remember me ? We just spoke the other night!" "Drink this." Marisiel hands a small vial to Gruff. "It tastes like feet but it will clear your ahead enough to be able to have a conversation with us."

AladdinSane wrote: Valeros wonders "is the lumber camp close enough that I could make it back before nightfall?" There are three camps... as shown on the initial map. They are 20 or more miles out so it would be a full day (daylight, normal walking speed) to get out and another day to get back. On horseback, you could do it in a few hours each way. In short, not enough time to do it all before nightfall.

Gertz wrote: Coincidentally I think I may have lost a day in here since I don't remember previously talking to anyone. It may be because I am trying to catch up a bit after a busy week. This is Ezren's improvisation. That's a normal part of RPGing and a normal part of building up a story. As a good improv player you could either respond, "yes, we talked about X' where X is something you want to interject into the story or you could go with 'I must have been pretty out of it, I don't remember' and let him fill in the details.

Ezren smiles at the Dwarf and chuckles.
"Of course, you were a bit under the table when we spoke. Having overheard you ranting about ridding the people of this horrible sickness, we decided to invite you to join us in our search for a remedy. There may be great dangers ahead and, we could sure use your "skills" if we run into any trouble."
"That is, of course, assuming you still wish to help us and, can remain sober long enough to make the journey."
"We are going to find the other 2 members of our group and make preparations for our journey. Join us now if you wish and, maybe we can find something besides the mead to fill your belly."
On the way to find Kyra and Valeros, Ezren will keep an eye out for anyone that may have horses for sale.

Okay, Assuming everyone has gotten a little taste for the town, you can assume that such a place would have horses (standard mounts, not war horses) for sale.
Animal, Horse, Light 75 gp Animal, Horse, Pony 30 gp
The five of you meet up after the Roots & Remedies closes for the day. There are still a few people who got shut out milling about outside and knocking loudly for Laurel to let them in - but they quickly disperse when your group comes courting.
Laurel lets you in and the five of you are assembled. What would you like to discuss?

Kyra says "Laurel, Thanks for making time with us. I know you are not getting much sleep these past few weeks. The rest of the clerics and I are at a loss to fully cure this malady brought on by the Blackscour. I know you have told me you already exhausted all of your normal treatments. I think we need to try the concoction you found in your grandmothers book even if it sounds like a longshot because we are out of things to.
As you see there are quite a few likeminded individuals ready to help you gather the needed supplies. What will you need to copy your grandmothers work?"

Some rare roots and concentrations, most of which I have here, but there’s three I don’t. Elderwood moss, which I’ve never heard of, but granny says the stuff only grows on the oldest tree in a forest. A specially pickled root called rat's tail, again, sounds like hoojoo to me. And seven Ironbloom mushrooms, stunty little things that only grow in dark places thick with metal, a favorite among Dwarves, or so I hear."

Ezren leans in to look at the book over Laurel's shoulder.
"Hmmm, Elderwood moss, that sounds familiar, I may have heard of this before. Are any of you familiar with these items ?"
Are there sketches in the book ? It would be wise to make sure we know exactly what these items look like before striking out in search of them.

As I recall, his uncle is staying at the central lumber camp (see the map for details). This is where the main lumber consortium operates out of - the two other camps are axillary camps as they spread out.

Sounds like a trip out to the Lumber Camp is in order for the morning.
Any other questions for Laurel?

Krya asks Laurel: Laurel, I haven't heard of any of these either. Are there any notes on there in how to find the "Rat's Tail" root? Do you know anyone around town who would have enough knowledge of the forest to know where the oldest tree in the woods is or that mines ore from forest to know where we should search for the Ironbloom?
Once Krya heads outside, she say to the others: "I think Valeros is right about the talking the woodsman or overseer as one of them might know where the oldest tree is. Its late tonight though and it might be best if we set out at dawn rather than make the trip at night. We might could use tonight to talk to blacksmiths to see if any of them get their ore from places in the forest as that would be a canidate location for Ironbloom. Finally, one of us might try to ask around about rat's tail root as we don't have any hints as to where it might be. I'm thinking some of the older citizens may have heard about some of these old wive's tales and home remedies so may have some nuggets of truth amoung their stories. What do you think?"

Laruel thinks for a few seconds and responds, "Well, for the elderwood mold, there’s gotta be an oldest tree in the vale but damned if I know where it is, though. The rat’s tail and mushrooms are even longer shots. Way north, toward the mountains, people say there used to live a bunch of Dwarves. They’re not there anymore, but I’d bet their forges are. If you can find Ironbloom anywhere around here, that’d be your best bet."
She stands and paces a bit.
"As for the rat’s tail, who knows? Well. Actually. Ulizmila, the witch that lives deep in the woods might. She’s a crafty, mean thing that knows all sorts of strangeness. She might even have one. I don’t know what she might want for it, but I doubt it’d come cheap. My grandmother traded her sight to the old crone for a few pages of what she knew, and that was years and years back, and I don’t know a soul who got any nicer as they got older."

Ezren is leaning against the building when Kyra comes out. He smiles politely at her and listens to what she has to say before speaking.
"I agree, it would be best to get some much needed rest (glances at Gruff) and head out in the morning. We may have a hard time finding anyone that knows of the rat tail root if Laurel herself has never heard of it. I guess it can't hurt to try though. I think I will try to locate some transportation for us in the meantime. It would be advantageous if we could make the trek in a few hours, rather than wasting an entire day.
"Merisel, would you care to join me ? We can have a look around town, seek out someone with a carriage, or wagon perhaps, and try to secure transport."

Prior to walking out to talk to the others but after Laurel responded, Kyra says: "Laurel, thanks for your help. We will be back as soon as we can. You better get some rest as I'm afraid your in for a long week."
Following Ezren's comments, Kyra Says: "I've seen some of the older women gathering around one of the town squares gossiping in the evenings. I think I'll go check that out and see if I can find any information about either the "witch" in forest or the rat's tail root. Might be worthless, but the old tales sometimes have truth at their heart. Does anyone have any other ideas before I set out? Shall we meet in the normal place at dawn?

A town of this size would have 5 horses of various sizes. In your price range:
Animal, Horse, Light 75 gp Animal, Horse, Pony 30 gp Wagon (needs 2 light horses) 300 gp
Nothing combat ready, but serviceable for transport. You can also walk.

Ezren was hoping to perhaps find someone with a wagon who was maybe already making the journey. Thinking that we could offer them just a few gold to take us along. I doubt we have nearly enough to purchase a horse for each of us.

You go out and inquire at the various watering holes and other public venues... asking around to see if anyone is making the trip out in the next day or so. Give me a Diplomacy check at DC13 (you roll a d20 and add to it your Diplomacy skill).

Sadly, you don't have much luck asking around town. Maybe spending most of your time at the library talking to the elderly wasn't the best plan of attack for finding transport
