Dave, I'm going to establish, but after my establishment if we need to discuss I'm okay with that.
- FLASHBACK -
In a half lit small theatre small clusters of twenty- and thirty-somethings linger, some hold sheets of paper, going through their lines one more time.
Kent sits in the seats in the middle of an aisle about halfway back fiddling with a copy of the script. Isabella sits next to him, apparently uninterested in the goings-on of the actors.
Juliet and Jonathan are on stage amongst the actors, but not interacting.
Kent calls from his seat, "Next up is...," deep sigh, "old Jonny K."
Jonathan whispers into the phone at his ear, "I gotta go Mom, I'm up." beat, "I love you too." beat, "I'm going to do great, you'll see." and he hangs up."
Juliet rolls her eyes as he walks passed.
Jonathan steps into the yellowish spotlight in the middle of the stage and waits for Kent to give him the go-ahead.

This looks good! What do you want from the scene? It seems to me that you're looking to illustrate Kent's comment from the apartment:
Kent wrote: My decisions have been made and you know why I made them. That sound about right? Or did you have something else in mind?

Yeah, there's that, we know things don't end up well for Jonathan, so I wanted to
illustrate explore how it happened. I also wanted to set up a potential scene with Jamie's character and our relationship and a potential scene for Matt and Sandy to explore their relationship.
Too much scope? Of course none of that needs to happen, I just wanted to facilitate it in case.

Well, I could see any or all of that happening, to some degree or other. I just want to make sure we know what you're looking for from the scene so we can
a) make sure we actually find what you're looking for, and b) know when to end the scene.

I do think that active pursuing all of that might be a bit ambitious for the scene (my preference leans towards short, punchy (figuratively, not necessarily literally ) scenes, but of course, YMMV). So I'd suggest picking one goal, so everyone knows what to work toward, and if other stuff comes up, cool.

My ultimate goal for the scene is to see Jonathan's audition vs Juliet's.

I heard part of an NPR interview with Stephen Sondheim (lyricist for "West Side Story" etc) today in which he said that Leonard Bernstein (composer for WSS as well as music & lyrics for "Peter Pan") was never afraid to fall off a ladder & taught him that the worst thing was to fall off a low rung. So in that spirit, we should aim high. If in doing so, we fall from great heights well, I guess that's the whole breaking the leg aspect. I am being over-literal, but it does seem like bodily injury could be a fun plot element.
We should at least see Jonathan's audition for this scene. Possibly we don't get to Juliet's because the deciding point for Kent likely isn't how wonderful hers was (it being a mediocre theater), but how bad Jonathan's was. Kent has the scene after this one & he could go all introspective about his muse vs his financial backers (someone possibly related to Juliet?) vs the talent pool he gets to work with vs how he can extract sexual or other favors.

May I rephrase the goal? How about "We know what decision Kent made--that Juliet gets the part instead of Jonathan. In this scene, let's find out why he made that decision."
With Jason's setup, it's going to mean Jonathan's audition, at least. After that? Well, let's see how it plays out.
I agree that we should aim high. No guts, no glory, right? But (and perhaps this is more my RPG preferences showing) we do want to make sure not to "play before playing", meaning if we specify *everything* beforehand, then playing out the actual scene becomes pretty lifeless.
And as far as bodily injury is concerned, consider the movies that Fiasco tries to emulate. Fargo, for example. A wood chipper? That goes a bit beyond a broken leg. Jump ahead in the rules and just look over the Tilt and Aftermath tables to see what the possibilities are.

I agree with not wanting to play before playing. This scene seems pre-destined for a black die but who knows. Maybe there is a way for Jonathan to lose the part but still have a positive (or at least less negative) outcome. I say we start the scene and see where it takes us from this point. Jason, if you agree let me know and I will give you your cue.

Let's get started.

The assistant director, standing near the stage, asks Jonathan, "Are you all set?" Jonathan nods. The assistant looks at Kent. Kent waves his hand dismissively "And... Scene..."

Jonathan visibly becomes more confident, this stage is his for the moment.
In a stroke of what he thinks brilliance, Jonathan goes off script and instead pantomimes the shadow chasing scene in Wendy Darling's bedroom.
The theatre goes silent as he dashes ungracefully to and fro to a cacophany of popping and cracking joints. Jonathan is of course oblivious to this and tries his hardest to portay the stuggle of the scene.
When he is finished he walks out of the spotlight into the wings, passing by Juliet he winks and whispers, "Second star to the right and straight on 'til morning."

Kent, and the rest of the people in the auditorium, look at each other in shocked silence. Then one after another they begin to laugh in a deep, contagious way. "Well, my dear, that was interesting." Kent says to Isabella, wiping tears of mirth from the corners of his eyes, then "Quiet everyone...quiet please. Next actor, please!" Kent yells clapping his hands together sharply

Am I supposed to go now? Could someone else go first? I've got stage fright!
Seriously, I'm going to watch the Disney animated movie tonight so I know what happens in the story. I likely won't have time to make a real post until Sunday.

Stage fright? Why is that? You'll be great!
If anyone wants the story it is here for reference: http://www.gutenberg.org/files/16/16-h/16-h.htm
Cheers!

Jamie, you are doing great! besides your audition is guaranteed to be better than Jonathan's

Aw shucks, thanks for the reassurance.
Juliet skips into the spotlight wearing a very short green dress, looking pert & elfin. She delivers a monologue from Peter Pan's first meeting with Wendy. Juliet portrays Peter Pan with a wide emotional range and giggles with childlike abandon. Her interaction with Tinker Bell is even believable. She is obviously enjoying herself & is fun to watch.

When she finishes the actors all applaud despite themselves.
Jonathan glares at Juliet as she bounces to the wings toward him. As she looks up at him the facade of professionalism comes over his face and he smiles, "Well done my dear, that was quite something. I don't think it was very original, but it was definitely spirited if nothing else."
You did wonderfully!
Let's cut there. That's exactly what I wanted to play out.

I will establish. I would like the scene to start the morning after the events at Kent's apartment. I would also like to flesh out the relationship between Kent and Isabella. I would also, if possible, like to get into more details about the missing cast list. Let's discuss briefly and then I will get started. How should this start?

Where do you want the scene to take place, in his apartment or the theater or the ER due to complications from the fight? Do you want just Kent & Isabella or do you want guest stars Jonathan & Juliet or we can send in our stunt doubles?

I would like the scene to take place at the theater. All the characters will be there but I would like the scene to be Kent and Isabella. I want to see what they are to each other and how they got there and how dysfunctional it is, lol!

Great, my dysfunctionality gets to come out in this scene (yeah, like it's really been hiding)
