Hello would be mutant adventurers! This will serve as the Out-of-Character thread for Gamma World Roleplaying Game. Feel free to ask questions, clarify rules, discuss things amongst yourselves (tactics, plans, etc.).
Please note that this is NOT a recruitment thread.
Treat this thread as the normal chatter between players and DM which is not directly in character (i.e. anything not in character). Conversations with NPCs, story reveal, or combat -- those things will be in the In Character Thread).
This thread is open for business! Please subscribe to this thread as it will contain all of the out of character discussions for the game. You should also subscribe to the In Character thread as well as it will contain all of the in character discussion, story, combat, etc.
(I'll link to it here when I get it posted)

Re: Table 2 Newbie PBF - Steading of the Iron King
Character Creation is done a bit differently in Gamma World. Most everything is determined by rolling dice! Rolling for characters is part of the fun of Gamma World. There are also no classes, but instead you gain bonuses based on your character's origins. How do you get an origin? You roll for it!
To determine your origin, use the Geek Roller to roll a d20 (put the word "Primary Origin" in the comment section). Then do it a second time (this time put "Secondary Origin" in the comment section)! Finally, consult the table below and there you have it!
Example, Dead Fred Primary Origin 1d20 = (16) = 16 Secondary Origin 1d20 = (14) = 14
This means Dead Fred is a rat-swarm plant! You see a strange sight as many small flowers begin to swirl together. You realize the swarm of plants is alive and moving together as if one entity.
Everyone, please roll d20 two times using the Geek Roller (just like my example). Then we'll move on to the next step of making characters.

So, I'm a Telekinetic Electrokinetic? Well, my friends just call me Sparky.

And just in case anyone is wondering, I'll explain what the origins mean (and their benefits) later once everyone has rolled.

Do I need to re-roll?

Do I need to re-roll? Nope! You are a super special secret winner!
Since you've rolled doubles, your primary origin becomes Engineered Human, with your secondary being Doppleganger. Basically, you were cooked up with humanity's best DNA. How's that for .05 odds?

Excellent. I'm the 6 million dollar body-double.
My name is Deuce.

Secondary roll 1d20 = (12) = 12
Primary roll 1d20 = (4) = 4 So I'm an Electrokinetic Mind Coercer, interesting.
Edit : Stix_remix, could I possibly swap with someone on table 1 (like wormwoode who didn't answer there yet) ? I have a friend over there. It's totally fine if I can't. ^^

Okay, so while we wait for our last member, I'll move along and show you all your origins now. I'll be using cards courtesy of OneInchSquare.net.
Let's go back to our buddy Dead Fred and see what he looks like.
Holy wall of info, Radioactive Man! While there is a lot on the cards, we won't be needing all of it just yet.
The first two cards for each origin are purely descriptive. They give you an idea of what that origin means and what it can appear as. If you have two radically different origins, you might be wondering how you reconcile them. Well, the secret is... you get to make up your own appearance! Even though Dead Fred is a "rat swarm," he could be anything from the a swarm of rats to sunflower seeds or other such plant/animal combinations. Use the given appearances as suggestions, not requirements. Seriously, your character's appearance is whatever you want it to be.
Primary Ability: There are six attributes in Gamma World. Strength, Constitution, Dexterity, Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma. Strength represents physical power, Constitution represents health, stamina, and vitals, Dexterity represents agility and coordination, Intelligence represents ability to learn and reason, Wisdom represents common sense and awareness, and Charisma represents force of personality and leadership quality. These attributes are rolled randomly using 3 six-sided dice (scoring 3-18). However, some of these are given a specific score based on your origin cards. The ability of your primary origin equals 18, and the ability of your secondary origin equals 16. So for example, Dead Fred has Dexterity 18 (from Rat Swarm) and Constitution 16 (from Plant). His last attributes are rolled randomly in order.
Strength 3d6 = (3 + 3 + 4) = 10 Constitution = 16 Dexterity = 18 Intelligence 3d6 = (6 + 2 + 4) = 12 Wisdom 3d6 = (5 + 1 + 4) = 10 Charisma 3d6 = (3 + 2 + 1) = 6 We now have all six attributes for Dead Fred.
I'll stop here and let all of you roll your attributes. Look over your origins and find your Primary and Secondary attribute (noting which is 18 and which is 16)*. Then roll 3d6 using the Geek Roller for each left over attribute individually in order (Strength, Constitution, Dexterity, Intelligence, Wisdom, Charisma last), skipping any attributes you automatically gain from your origins. When using the Geek Roller you can hit the d6 button three times, or write in 3d6 (the common notation for rolling three six-sided dice). Follow the example I've listed, and you should be good!
*If your Primary and Secondary attribute are the same, put a 20 instead and roll for the other five randomly. You're simply exceptional.

So these are my attributes:
Strength 1d6 + 1d6 + 1d6 = (1) + (3) + (5) = 9 Constitution = 18 Dexterity 1d6 + 1d6 + 1d6 = (4) + (1) + (5) = 10 Intelligence 1d6 + 1d6 + 1d6 = (3) + (4) + (1) = 8 Wisdom = 16 Charisma 1d6 + 1d6 + 1d6 = (4) + (5) + (3) = 12

My attributes:
Strength 1d6 + 1d6 + 1d6 = (6) + (2) + (5) = 13 Constitution 1d6 + 1d6 + 1d6 = (2) + (2) + (6) = 10 Dexterity 1d6 + 1d6 + 1d6 = (5) + (5) + (2) = 12 Intelligence = 18 Wisdom = 16 Charisma 1d6 + 1d6 + 1d6 = (2) + (1) + (2) = 5
-
-
Deuce's attributes:
Strength 1d6+1d6+1d6 = (1) + (3) + (2) = 6 Constitution 1d6+1d6+1d6 = (4) + (6) + (1) = 11 Dexterity 1d6+1d6+1d6 = (1) + (1) + (4) = 6 Intelligence = 20 Wisdom 1d6+1d6+1d6 = (5) + (1) + (1) = 7 Charisma 1d6+1d6+1d6 = (1) + (4) + (1) = 6
Wow...those are some crappy rolls....I guess I'll have to rely on intelligence.

Sorry all, been working. Just a heads up; I am a shft worker so will be on at odd times. Anyway here goes...
Primary Origin 1d20 = (17) = 17 Secondary Origin 1d20 = (15) = 15
Strength 1d6 + 1d6 + 1d6 = (1) + (5) + (6) = 12 Constitution 1d6 + 1d6 + 1d6 = (1) + (2) + (2) = 5 Dexterity 1d6 + 1d6 + 1d6 = (2) + (2) + (2) = 6 Intelligence 1d6 + 1d6 + 1d6 = (1) + (1) + (4) = 6 Wisdom 1d6 + 1d6 + 1d6 = (5) + (1) + (1) = 7 Charisma 1d6 + 1d6 + 1d6 = (1) + (5) + (5) = 11

So I am a Seismic Radioactive with decent STR and CHA but not so good at anything else....
{edit} Hang on I just realised I need to know what my primary and secondary attributes will be then roll for the remaining ones. So do i roll again once i find out what my primary and secondary attributes are or do i just roll again?

Ok I think I should just stick with the rolls I have already made and just change the two primary and secondary attributes to 18 and 16 respectively. Therefore my Seimic Radioactive character attributes are
STR = 18 CON = 16 DEX = 6 INT = 6 WIS = 7 CHA = 11
Awesome I am a tank. I like playing tank styled characters in my PC RPG games.
I am Theiron, a large robust looking creature with a dark red skin that emits a faint greenish glow. I am clumsy and rather inept at reasoning things out prefering to just bash things first then check the remains for anything interesting. the quintessential barbarian basher.

Well, how completely slightly below average of me.

Dug out the cards I had made as part of the absurd investment I made in this game, before it became clear my gaming group weren't up to playing an RPG yet. It's nice to get some use out of them.
Plant Mindbreaker str- 11 con- 18* dex- 9 int- 13 wis- 9 cha- 16*
Name: Jeaves 7ft. tall, thickly built with extraordinary posture. Smooth, pale-green skin visible only above the stiff collar of his impeccably well-tailored, extremely old-fashioned suits and mysteriously ever-spotless gloves.
His milky-yellow eyes are solid in color, with no iris or pupil to betray the frequent "eye rolling" in response to the plans, schemes, and grammar of those in his company.
In the ancient tradition of the wandering "master-less samurai", the imposing and persuasive figure of Jeaves is a "gentleman-less gentleman's gentleman".

Obi Wann wrote: Sorry all, been working. Just a heads up; I am a shft worker so will be on at odd times. Anyway here goes... That's not a problem. Most PBF games only require a post every day to within every 3 days.
These are much usually slower and more methodical than Mountains of Madness, so there is no need to stay online constantly. I know I won't be.
