Does Ezren's spells like Burning hands, ray of frost, and magic missles get affected by Hardness?
If not they may be a better way of getting some damage on this thing.

If not they may be a better way of getting some damage on this thing. Actually, it depends. Some Energy Attacks are not effective against some objects. For example, a metal door attacked with fire is likely not going to be affected even if the damage against living things would be above the hardness level (you can burn a stone wall all day and in the end you've just got hot rocks!). But fire against thatch... well that's likely to be more effective.
So ray of frost is likely not going to affect the cauldron. Burning hands is likely not going to affect the cauldron. But using one right after the other?! Brittle-city! Especially if Valeros were to smash it after such a combination... think outside the box!

uhhhg.
I feel like I'm kinda lost here. Most of my attacks can barely damage this thing, even with max damage. Magic Missle is of no use, and I don't wanna fry everyone with a flame.
I think next round I am just gonne go back outside and set more stuff on fire !
NOT TO MENTION THE DIE ROLLER

Think a little outside the box... the thing has shaky legs... maybe try sweeping with your staff and knock a leg out to make it prone (giving others +2 to hit it).
There are lots of things I'd allow... more than I even know

Hmm.. would that still require an attack roll ?

Basically you would still have to "hit" and that's not something your character is good at

Someone just posted an auction that includes a bunch of D&D stuff. Prices look reasonable.

In case anyone is interested.

Mulligans wrote: Prices are pretty good - and if a few pennies go to BGG that's a huge benefit. But be warned - some 4e core stuff is going really cheap now with the announcement of 5e and the semi-open playtests which show that it will deviate from the 4e methodologies and return to more basic fundamentals of earlier editions (the lead designer of 5e was the guy who created 3rd edition and, hence, is the 'grandfather' of Pathfinder). A number of core 4e books have been dropping in value lately - for example, the Revenge of the Giants can be had right now on ebay for under US$15 including shipping (about $10 for the book and $4-5 for shipping). Same for Arcane Power. Some others on his list are good below-market prices - the 4e Tome of Horrors almost always goes for more than US$20 (before shipping). As with anything, check ebay, Amazon used along with Toad & Troll or Noble Knight Games for trends!

I attacked the amulet because I thought Mersiels idea was a really cool twist. While it didn't work it has me wondering, what happens if players mess up part of the planned story. Let's say that amulet was really important to the story line and there isn't a planned alternative in the written scenario to move the story along without it.
Does the GM just invent something new that picks up the missing threads? How often does this hypothetical event happens where the players jump off the rails? Have you ever run into the situation where its just game over like a hero drops the item that was supposed to save the world into a lake of lava?

I would either work around it - building in new story elements as we go or... magically, the amulet had some special property (or hardness) that would not allow it to be destroyed.

Have you ever run into the situation where its just game over like a hero drops the item that was supposed to save the world into a lake of lava? Players jump off the rails as soon as you start playing. If your adventure lies to the east, they will go west to look over 'that hill, over there'. I tend to allow players to move around freely - I can usually add in little encounters and other drop-in elements or extend the adventure in interesting ways. In a very short adventure such as this one, however, some amount of being 'on rails' is needed. Had you headed south (away from the forest) instead of north, I'd have had you encounter Milon who was away on business to the south, etc.
Most players are good to their GMs and will bite on various plot hooks - but rarely does an adventure go exactly as planned. When I create my own campaign worlds (i.e. not running a built-in adventure or campaign), I usually just outline areas and highlight of plot points, interesting NPCs and villains, etc. Then I let the players bridge the story - they usually make things much more interesting than anything I'd come up with!

I thought I was following your lead...all this talk about a creepy amulet along with a cauldron that (seemingly) couldn't be damaged. Merisel put 2 and 2 together...but unfortunately came up with 5.

Tis okay. It's an artifact... likely bound up with some evil magics. Sometimes such things can be beneficial to a group of adventurers. Sometimes they come with 'strings attached'. Destroying it wasn't the worst nor the best thing you could have done with it

Perhaps one of us could perform CPR on it...though I suspect the message might have been "get out of here before my cauldron beats you up!"

I want to de-lurk just to say that I, too, am rather enjoying this campaign. Best of luck to you all with the pot. Oh, and friendly fire.
Good job keeping this going, Dave.

So where do we put in a trouble ticket...I think the geek die roller broke as it came up Kyra on the cauldron's attack and we have been playing this game long enough for me to catch on to some of the rules that Dave hasn't told us but instead let us learn for ourselves like the one about only Merisiel getting attacked. Clearly something is wrong as Kyra's name looks nothing like Merisiel...unless of course that rule is only for hits and misses can be on anyone.

Yes, we've definitely learned that almost every attack is on Merisel and almost every critical miss is from Ezren

indeed!

You had mentioned that this adventure was free. After its over i'd like to know where to get it as I'm dying to know what message we missed...but I can be good and wait until we are done.

Paizo has several freebie adventures you can download from their website. Every year they release a new one on Free RPG Day (in June) and while the print run on those is usually pretty low, the PDFs remain free forever. This particular adventure can be downloaded here:
http://paizo.com/store/v5748btpy7xpy
and you don't even have to add it to your cart - you can use the link on that page to download the "2.9 MB zip PDF". Only don't read it for a few weeks until we finish

Hello chaps,
This story is more addictive than Emmerdale Farm.
Great job on the role playing banter and in particular the DMing.
How does an old bloke from the UK get involved in an adventure such as this? I notice that there is often quite a delay between posts. Do players simply post when they get the chance, or do you co-ordinate schedules to be on-line at the same time?
Well done. Eagerly awaiting the dungeon expedition.

bolded.
Seems to work pretty well. Although I do find myself having to restrain from just charging off and possibly getting into trouble before everyone else has a chance to make their plays !

I just log on whenever I can...you can usually tell where I'm logging on from. Ifs its brief with the occasionally really odd word I'm on my phone and its spelling aid is screwy so Ezren becomes extensive unless I catch it and tell it not to fix it.
When I'm on my desktop or laptop I tend to have enough time to get more into the post.

Do players simply post when they get the chance, or do you co-ordinate schedules to be on-line at the same time? Easiest way is to subscribe to the high-level Play By Forum area. This is where all new games get going in terms of asking for recruits, etc. A wide variety of games pop up all the time - from classic 1974 Original Dungeons & Dragons to the latest 'story-games' which borders on near improvisation and story telling (and very little tactical combat as you see in Pathfinder, etc). And everything in-between! Best to just wait a bit to see if something comes up that catches your interest - most GMs will make it clear if their games are newbie-friendly (and most are). Being in a different time-zone is fine... in my AD&D Winter's Curse PBF here on the Geek we have people from the UK (2), Brazil (1) and at least two different Time-Zones here in the USA. So long as you can check in once/day (small vacations and emergencies are obviously fine) then it's usually all good.
