Hello. So I got the red box set of D&D and i have some questions.
first: after you complete an combat encounter do you regenerate all your health?
second: do you have to create a new characater if you start a new campaign?
third: do you get new healing surges every day in real life or if it says you slept 1 day in game?
fourth: do i need to get the regular players guide to join a different campaign?

I could answer all of your questions if you were referring to the 1st or 2nd edition Advanced D&D. But I'm not sure about the Red Box rules. Sorry, but I do not want to give you incorrect information.

I think Jeff is wanting clarification on which "Red Box" you are playing, as there are a few different ones, which have different answers.

1. No. You have the opportunity to spend Healing Surges though.
2. Up to you and the group.
3. In the game. You only get them if you take an "Extended Rest." In real life, that could be the DM saying "Okay, you guys head back to town. A month later, a messenger boy comes with an invitation to the duke..." (or whatever). If at least 8 hours passing in game time, then that's an extended rest.
4. Again, up to the group. Your new group might have books they are fine with letting you borrow. Especially with 4th, there's a lot of different books out there, many of which have been heavily errata'd, so definitely check to see what the group is using before spending money.
Also, in case you haven't heard, 5th edition is coming out either this year or (more likely) 2013. So don't go too overboard in purchasing if you think your group(s) are likely to make the switch.
