I am toying with the idea of running a PBF for Primetime Adventures here on BGG. My history with PTA is not very long (though if you want to count years, it is now around 4-5 since I played it) and I am in no way a grandmaster - having only played a single game and listened to another one on a recording.
But the system itself is reasonably easy to pick up (and in my case refresh) and on top of that the game can be played with almost anyone who is willing to invest ideas into it.
Also, we can run multiple sessions if we would like to, or just one-two in case the development does not go according to the player's wishes... That is the beauty of PTA - you don't need to elaborately prepare the whole game (like some more traditional RPGs) just to realize after three long sessions, that you don't want to play that game after all.
Therefore I would like to gauge interest from around 5-6 3-4 players, who would be willing to participate and create an experience regularly seen on TV or the big screen... This game can also easily accomodate replacements in case a player has to drop out for any reason - the replacement just picks up where the previous player left off!
I have no set date yet for the start of the game itself (I also need to check up on the rules again and refresh my memory), but my estimate is one or two weeks.

I'd be interested.

Re: PBF - would someone be interested?
Thx James, so far you are a one-man team
I will leave this topic open until I get at least 3 people interested (that number seems far more possible given the wide array of other PbF games hiring players around RPGG).

To get more people in the game make your post here: http://rpggeek.com/forum/379243/rpg/play-by-forum
On these forums people really have to come to see it or just spot it on front page. When you post there a lot of people are subscribed so you will get noticed easier and find more players.

This game relies more on imagination and ability to come up with good ideas for the game setting, character concepts and goals and interesting scenes.
The system can be explained in a single post, as well as the resolution mechanic for conflicts (which are always the peak of each scene).

Re: PBF - would someone be interested?
I got another interested player in the related topic:
Scott Slomiany
United States Unspecified Unspecified
So if he chimes in here too, we would be pretty set up for the game! 4 players would be the maximum I would like to have - it would be easier to handle than say 5-6
Can anyone please say again if they are still interested?

Re: PBF - would someone be interested?
Unless you think that you will keep everybody I advise an extra couple of players.
I am interested -- but if I need to be in a backup slot, that's ok.

Extra players are always welcome, they can also serve as an Audience - giving/receiving/using Fan Mail

I think we can slowly start discussing the flavor of the show, its setting and environment.
What would you guys like to play? What movies/shows do you like and why? What would be interesting?

Why so slow?
For this PBF, how often should we expect to post?

I vote for one of the following... comedy, crime drama, or action-adventure. I vote against medical drama, soap opera, or "reality" shows.

Re: PBF - would someone be interested?
This initial slowness is/was to allow players to join. Now that we have 3-4 interested players, the pace will speed up.
I am at teh internetz the whole european day (GMT+1) so can react pretty much instantly. After my working hours I sometimes also log in, sometimes not... But discussions do not need me to necessarily be present the whole day long so this should be ok.
I would appreciate if you log in at least once a day and react to all suggestions and talks (of course if you log more frequently, the better!), because this game is about that - longer discussions upfront and then working out the current scene together with roleplay elements.

Re: PBF - would someone be interested?
Let's see, shows I've liked: Arrested Development, Avatar: The Last Airbender, Community, first 2 seasons of Battlestar Galactica reboot, Fawlty Towers, Firefly, Seinfeld, Sherlock.
I tend to like comedies. The problem is I don't really know how to write comedies. If people want to go in that direction, I can learn/practice. Even if the genre isn't straight up comedy, having tone (I think that's what the book calls it) sometimes be light/comedic is fine by me.
Past that, I enjoy good character ensemble shows, but that's what Primetime Adventure does anyway. I think I'm up for pretty much any genre as long as the show is about the characters, not the genre (i.e. if action adventure, it's not all explosions and car chases). Avatar, BSG, and Firefly had a good mix of characters and action.

Comedy, Action-adventure, crime-drama... all of them fit well for me also.
Shows I really like: New Battlestar Galactica/Firefly (a tie for first place), Star Trek TNG/DS9, A Game of Thrones, Dexter...
I too am not a standup comedian by trade, but we can surely crack a joke here and there... Of course I would not be able to "produce" The Simpsons or Futurama or the like
A nice concept or background for the show just came to my mind - imagine a two-part city, one part sitting on and near an ocean beach, the other part being submerged several hundred meters or even more off the coast in the depths of the ocean (and built for whatever purpose). Both city parts are dependent on each other and mutually benefit their own needs... There is regular travel between them in the form of smaller and bigger submergible vehicles as there is no direct line of train or subway possible.

Re: PBF - would someone be interested?
Oh, I am also a big, big reader of TVTropes. That will color my play a bit.
Joe seems to have a scifi bent. I'm fine with a setting 20 minutes (or more) into the future. That seems to be orthogonal to the genres FlyingArrow lists: comedy (Futurama), crime drama (boardgame: Android), action-adventure (most any scifi show you can list).

That all works for me. I'd prefer not to try a comedy show but I expect there to be some humorous elements in whatever we come up with. Firefly and Babylon 5 both had plenty of comedy but they were definitely action-adventure/dramas.
As for shows I'd like to emulate:
Firefly The new BSG Farscape Avatar:The Last Airbender (one of the funniest action shows ever) Leverage Burn Notice The first couple of seasons of Sons of Anarchy

Re: PBF - would someone be interested?
That "not-too-distant future" idea is nice Not too flashy, but with an edge above our current era. And also with a possibility to be darker in a way (ála that Android boardgame James mentions).
And I see we have a lot of commonalities in shows we like!
If FlyingArrow says BSG/Firefly, we either have Malc or Adama in
Should it be something concentrating on our world (or a world), or an interplanetary/-stellar adventure?

I like this idea. That's a bit more than 20 minutes into the future, though. 75 years, maybe?
Questions and some suggested answers...
When exactly? 2100. This is kind of a nebulous year, though, where we'd have to answer all kinds of questions regarding what technology is available and isn't. OTOH, since it's a TV show, we can answer those questions whenever we have a plot reason to address it.
Where exactly? Not sure. How about somewhere that attracts people from all over the world, such that there is no racial or ethnic majority.
How big is the city? Mid-sized city. Most people inside the country would have heard of it, but it's not an internationally known city. Say population 1,000,000 on land and 100,000 people underwater.
Why? Modern day gold rush of some sort. I can't think of any other reason why 100,000 people would be underwater. Maybe this location is both near a huge oil deposit and a huge gold deposit. Underwater people can be working in both industries. Rough breakdown: 50,000 oil workers split evenly between two major international corporations. 30,000 independent prospectors who go out searching for their own fortune underwater. (Maybe gold, but better if it's something else perhaps.) 20,000 people working as support personnel (government and infrastructure) in the underwater city.
(Just suggestions feel free to reject anything.)
