My question relates to the amount of "to hit" rolls you make for a ship during fire combat under the High Guard rules. Do you roll for each battery or what? Also, for all successful "to hit" rolls made is it possible that you have to roll to penetrate a ship's defenses more than once for each successful hit roll because of the plurality of a ship's defenses? For example if you use a beam and a sandcaster to defend against a missile do you have to make two penetration rolls in order to successfully penetrate the ship's defenses? Finally, are missiles the only type of weapon that laser fire can defend against?

Hi Kirk,

The simple answer to all your questions is yes. You roll for each battery to hit and again to penetrate each defense. There will be a lot of dice rolling and my club likes to have at least twenty distinct pairs of dice so you can roll most of the batteries all at once. Then you remove the pairs that failed each step. It is a dice fest but we have found only the spinal mount weapons really make a difference.
