Ya I felt that was a bit odd as well. I mean it is abstract in feel, but it is definitely NOT an Abstract Game. It's also not your traditional heavy strategy game. But, it's also not a party game. It's a tough one to pin down. If there was ever a "Euro Party Filler", it would be Artus.
Probably explains the confusion of people that don't like it.... What?

That's what I will try to do, but in the mean time, I votes for all games in each category and will most likely change them often.

Re: 2011 Golden Geek Nominees Announced - Voting Open!
Good board games! In some categories I only "picked" one of the games, but I like what you other nomineed.
The categories I picked most games in was Card Game (4): 7 Wonders, Ascension, LOTR: Card Game, Yomi. And 2-Player Game (3): Dragonheart, Earth Reborn, A Few Acres of Snow.
Well, my guess was that 7 Wonder would make it in three categories. Wow, it made it into six, plus the expansion category. Thats magnificent seven!
Some games from last year is nominated again like Ablaze!, Level X and Zombie Dice. Coz people don't know so many in these categories? I guess so.
Nice to see that games like Earth Reborn, High Frontier, Mijnlieff, Dragonheart and Ascension is nominated. Nice games!

Re: 2011 Golden Geek Nominees Announced - Voting Open!
I have seen, that Artus really has "abstract" as an attached "category" and is even ranked as ... strange. Feeling or not, it has cards to play, so it is not an all information game at all. And pasted-on theme or not, this is not more abstract as your common eurogame. OK - we had that before ...

Exactly - our strategy-minded gamegroup tried it 3 times to see what all the fuss was about - now it's on my to-trade list
What's worse is that Lancaster is nowhere to be found - best strategy game I played this year

In the BGG outlook on rating scales, is it worse for a game to be rated a 10 or not at all?
(And Earth Reborn is a wargame?! Huh. Who knew I'd been playing a wargame all this time?)

Why is Dixit Odyssey listed as an expansion? It's usable all by itself as a base game (in fact, it's a better base game than the original), much like Small World Underground.

Yeah I can never remember this. For example, if I have played a game but strongly feel that game does not belong in a given category. Is it better for me (worse for the game) if I put N/A or 10?

Re: 2011 Golden Geek Nominees Announced - Voting Open!
I am really worried that 7 Wonders is going to sweep a lot of these categories based on popularity alone. It already got nominated for categories it has no business being in just because of name recognition (Party, Strategy, Innovation). If it wins all of these, it will really cheapen the award going forward.
And I LIKE 7 Wonders, especially with the Leaders expansion. But it's not strategic at all. And it's DEFINITELY not innovative at all, being just a dressed up version of Fairy Tale.
