Hey all -- I was just chatting with a friend of mine about the background to his Reanimated-Hawkoid character. (He's playing a zombie in a chicken suit, using a miniature from Studio Miniatures).
He suggested that he could do a Joker thing where his background changes based on his mood, and I got to thinking... how about a Random Background Deck?
Given the unstable nature of Alpha Mutations, and the collapsed realities of Gamma Terra, I thought this might be a fun idea that would not impact game rules, but might really enhance enjoyment of the game.
Anyhoo... I thought I would post that here for people's thoughts and feedback.
What do you all think?

"kato" over at http://oneinchsquare.blogspot.com/ made some REALLY nice origin cards you could use for this...
Make sure you let him know if it works well, since he did an awesome job with these, and would probably appreciate knowing people are getting good use out of them.

Games have certainly used cards before to guide the progress of a game or the background of a character - like Torg or Everway Visionary Roleplaying.
Everway was, admittedly, a random pile of art cards - but the premise certainly worked that you could allow the very specific focus of those cards to generate a concept or background.
I'm all for synchronicity (one of my favourite albums by The Police, but I digress...).

The furry superhero comic Supermegatopia had a character by the name of the Falcon Falchion (iirc). His present was fixed, but his past was whipping back and forth through time, so his personal history was different depending on when he recalled it.
It was a wonderful idea, and I'd love to see it appear a bit more often.

Kato is a good friend of mine and he would absolutely love to hear that his cards were helpful to anyone who has used them.
As for the original question - sounds awesome to me! It fits right in with the wacky Gamma World theme and would be easy enough to do effectively. I say go for it (remember to let us know how it went).

Glad to hear it! We use them for random character generation instead of rolling on the charts, and so it seemed like a shoe-in to use them for this purpose as well.

Please let Kato know that his cards are excellent, and I have already decided to incorporate them in future.
...and thanks to everyone for the great feedback!.

Be sure to bookmark this thread, and let us know how it works out. Sounds like a fun time!
I think I might even use the "changing background" idea for some really nasty Alpha Flux events...

That's a perfect example of what I am thinking of. Thanks Almafeta!
