They have guns!
This is our fourth session from the Terror at Talabheim adventure.
Players: Snorri, a Dwarven apprentice runesmith Ronny, a Human initiate of Morr Arwen, an Elven apprentice wizard
As our adventurers discovered in the previous session, doctor Gugula Skell is responsible for the current undead infestation in the streets of Talabheim. They decide to pay her a visit and arrive at her home at dusk. The players still remember their adventure with the vampire Wilhelm Hollenbach. They entered the mausoleum at night and it didn't go very well. So their characters are very reluctant to enter the necromancers house at nightfall and decide to come back in the morning. Ronny decides to go to the temple of Morr, the others decide to find an inn to sleep. Ronny requests to see the abbot and they talk a little about the initiate status. Ronny needs a prayer book to become a priest, but it is rather expensive. The abbot decides to help Ronny out and give it to him if he can prove himself and do something about the undead infestation. Ronny decides to stay in the temple and get some sleep in a coffin.
He wakes up in the morning with the sound of someone nailing the coffins shut. A priest of Morr is working and closing all coffins. Ronny gets out, thanks the priests for their hospitality and decides to walk to the inn where the others are. Together they decide to go back to the house of the necromancer. There is a scent of lilacs around the place. Ronny informs the others that lilacs are often used to conceal the smell of decaying bodies. Snorri destroys the door with his axe and they enter the house. They discover a hidden passage in the hallway, revealing stairs leading down. They follow the stairs and enter a room with 3 other exits. In the room is a slab used for surgery. While investigating the room they hear a voice and a wight appears. Ronny does not hesitate and charges the wight. The others follow his lead. The wight is not an easy foe however and Ronny has to disengage after a few blows. Snorri keeps hitting the wight and Arwen keeps bolting him and they get him down eventually. Ronny decides to pick up the head and take it with him. Arwen looks around in the room for loot. He's also preparing to advance his career and needs a lot of money for a grimoire. He's too slow to loot the wights blade however, as Snorri decides to pick it up. And unfortunately for Arwen the other stuff in the room has no real value. The dwarf decides to torment Arwen with his bad luck, tempting the elf to take the blade from the dwarf by force. But Arwen keeps his temper and they decide to check the three exits.
Following the first one they get to the sewers after one hundred meters. They don't want to explore the sewers during a skaven invasion and decide to go back and check the other two exits. In the second one they find the tracks of several humans, though the tracks are a bit weird. Some seem to be walking on their hands. They follow the tunnel and get out close to the Taalgarten, very close to the place where they lost track of the undead after the attack a few days before. Being so close to God's Row, Ronny decides to go back to the temple of Morr while the others wait in the Taalgarten. Arwen decides to hug a tree in the mean time. Ronny explains the abbot everything, showing the wights head but leaving out the part where he ran away from the wight. The abbot is impressed and gives Ronny the book he needs. Ronny also informs the abbot they haven't searched the whole house of the necromancer and asks him if some priests can accompany them. The abbot agrees and sends Boudewijn, Albert and Leopold. Ronny returns to the others with three priests of Morr. They decide to go back to the tunnel to the house of the necromancer. Only one tunnel left to explore, which leads to another room with a couple of slabs, lots of body parts and some half resurrected undead. The priests of Morr are very excited and start handling the dead. The three PCs decide to check the rest of the house upstairs.
The first room is a study with lots of books, all concerning medicine. They find a flask with a green liquid, but have no idea what it does. Ronny tries to convince Arwen to drink it and see what happens, but Arwen decides not to drink some strange liquid from a necromancers home. The other room next to the study is a kitchen / dining room / store room. Again nothing of interest. Upstairs they find the master bedroom. They are in looting mode now and Arwen decides to take the necromancers slippers with him. He doesn't want to leave the house empty handed. Next room is an artist studio where they find some paintings and sculptures. The paintings are rather disturbing. It seems Gugula decided to paint some of her necromantic creations. There is no sign of the necromancer in the house. They decide to spend the night there and keep watch but all stays quiet.
In the morning they decide to check out the sewers from the tunnel out of the house. The find a cart, probably used to transport bodies from the streets to the necromancer. They can follow the tracks easily back to the merchant district. The tracks go up and they end up in the part of town where they first encountered the undead, close to the barricades. Suddenly they hear an explosion followed by the squealing of thousands of rats. They run to the barricades and see some frightened clan pestilence skaven running to them. A rival clan of skaven are attacking Talabheim, and they seem to be a huge force. The skaven stop in front of the barricade and let a strange looking skaven through. He has a weird apparatus on his back. It seems to activate and the skaven blows a hole through the barricade. Hundreds of skaven charge and the PCs with some guards need to defend. They can't handle the amount of skaven. These aren't regular skaven, some have guns! There are even a few waprfire thrower teams. With total disregard for its own troupes the skaven overwhelm the city militia. A cry for regrouping at Heldenhammer temple is all that's needed for the PCs to run for their lives.
They run to God's row and enter the temple. They prepare to defend the place. Not a moment too soon as the Skaven have arrived here as well. Stormvermin, warpfire thrower teams, ratling gun crews, wind globadiers and even a rat ogre. All at the gates trying to get in. The rat ogre trashes the gate while some stormvermin crawl over the walls. The temple is flooded with skaven and the PCs try to defend as best they can. The warpfire thrower teams do a lot of damage and Arwen is caught in the warpfire. Both sides are taking a lot of casualties. Snorri keeps swinging his axe, Ronny falls to the ground, his left hand wrecked by the rat ogre. Arwen barely alive but surviving the warpfire, his sanity gone from casting failures (he went from 4 insanity points to 9, no insanity yet at the moment). They are able to kill the rat ogre and the warpfire teams and the remaining skaven are pushed out of the temple. They are able to keep the temple free of Skaven. But it doesn't look good for the rest of Talabheim.
Arwen mutates slightly due to the warpfire and becomes grossly fat (note to self: Arwen will need a new wardrobe so he might lose a few extra gold coins).

Yeah, we had lots of fun. It was very combat heavy though, and the players where lucky I didn't have more Skaven miniatures.
