I had played this when I was a kid and loved it - would be interested in starting up a group online where we could play once again.

pm me on here if interested and thanks!

Hmm. That could be interesting. Would we get to play with the cargo speculation tables?

Cheers,

Yes I think a play by forum makes the most sense for my schedule too.

I played Classic way way way back when - so anything like speculation tables I'm up for -- if we do a "referee" game though, the Ref himself would have final say on what the "market" looks like for the band of adventurers!

If you haven't played through all the classic Traveller published adventures, we could pick one of them. Just no reading-ahead if you're not the referee? (honor system)

Its been long enough since I've played any of them that we could still play through like it was the first time.

I got several replies - so this is very exciting - let's have a discussion on this thread about rules and such - I'm happy to be the Referee unless someone has their heart set on that.

I have all the basic rules in print - as well as most of the advanced character generation books like High Guard, mercenary and the like so we should definitely go that route.

We can probably use Skype, IRC or something to gather 'round the table and roll characters....etc. Thoughts and ideas?

What is the game's format going to be? Forums? Skype? Something else?

Cheers,

Well I think forums is where we would start - we have a couple folks from various time zones that would make "live" play impractical.

I am hoping we can create or utilize existing mechanics out there for dice rolling and communications - I'm happy to use this forum as our main gaming area though.

Right, my 2 cents:

I think we should use the play-by-forum facility here at BGG. Chuck is right, with different time-zones, live play is nothing but a dream.

We could create 3 threads : OOC, player generation, and once player generation is done, another for the in game play.

Now, there's one thing I still have not understood, is this for Classic Traveller, or Mongoose?

If it is indifferent , can it be the Mongoose version?

(I'm game for it, either or)

I am partial to Classic Traveller - I have a briefcase full of original GDW books/adventures + a pile of "new" books that look just like the old but bigger and shinier so I am not sure if that's Mongoose but I don't think it is.

What is OOC?

OOC= out of character

It's where the players can discuss things without breaking character in the IC thread.

Mongoose is the latest incarnation of Traveller from Mongoose. It seems very similar to the Classic Trav. I've got it, but it's been a few years since I looked at the Classic books, so I'm not sure how close they are.

I think they're close enough as to not be an issue. I'll setup threads in the PBF area.
