It looks like it's going to be a great year of RPGing for me. One of my regular players has been bit by the GM bug, and on Sunday night, we had a Deadlands: Reloaded character generation session.

I like the point buy system, although I don't really have the love for edges and hindrances (or advantages and disadvantages, or whatever, depending on the game). I ended up just taking the one free edge that all human characters get in Savage Worlds.

So what did we end up with? Eric, who has played the original version of Deadlands before and had some commentary throughout the evening on changes that have been made (interesting to hear about), wanted to play around with the magic system and created a huckster. Meanwhile, I developed a bounty hunter type (I imagine him a bit as Brushy Bill Roberts from the first Young Guns movie).

I don't know yet when we'll get together for our first play session, but hopefully it'll be soon. I'm looking forward to finally giving the Weird West at try.

Chris

Edges & hindrances are what make SW characters come alive, what differentiates them from other characters - at least for me. I would definitely have taken more than your usual one free edge.

I didn't find them all that interesting, really. Maybe they'll come to life a bit more in play.

Chris

EDIT: Actually, there were some interesting edges, but they weren't available for novice-level characters.

The Reloaded rules take some of the fun out of the edges and hindrances, IMO. I played the original rules a while back and loved them, but I'm just so-so on the way the new system works.
