this is the game to use with Yaquinto's Pirates & Plunder. i searched and searched for the seaboard combat sequel for the above rpg (it was never published), and found this to be the best example in the spirit of the game. just ignore the character rules in this game, or join them freely. it doesn't matter how a character is made, but what his skills at sea are.
other rpg sourcebooks have invaluable information, but this is the unpublished sequel that should have been.

also, for extrememly detailed shipboard combat, use Privateers and Gentlemen with Pirates Plunder.
