Steffan is the author of several role-playing game books including Fudge, Sherpa, SLUG, and the following GURPS books: GURPS Bestiary, GURPS Swashbucklers (First Edition), GURPS Fantasy Bestiary, and GURPS Bunnies & Burrows. He also designed Fudge Dice.

He was a co-plaintiff in the Steve Jackson Games et al. vs. The United States Secret Service trial. (He was the person logged into the BBS when Secret Service unplugged it.)

He is the leader of the pro-Peek-a-Boo faction in the great Peek-a-Boo wars on geekdo.com.
