Hello everyone, and welcome to the greatest competition in history!

This list is set up for those that want to follow and discuss the Iron Reviewer: Last Geek Standing contest. Here all information about the running competition will be collected.

So what is Iron Reviewer? It is a competition starting January first to find the most tenacious of all of the Geek's reviewers.

The rules are as follows:

d10-1 2 GG to enter
d10-2 Write a review every two weeks or you're out.
d10-3 After a year it accelerates to every week if anyone is still standing.
d10-4 After two years it goes to daily.
d10-5 There are three lifelines, each one can only be used once:
d10-51 Freebie: If you miss a review, you have to write two EXTRA (so three) in the following time period to get back in.
d10-52 Vacation: You can miss a review with no penalty as long as you inform the group while turning in the previous review. So if you plan to miss review number 43, you must inform of this when you post review number 42.
d10-53 Personal: If you feel for some reason that because of personal events beyond your control you were not be able to review, you can use this option. The honour system is in effect here. This lifeline should not be used lightly. It should not be used because of technical problems, laziness or bad fortune that could have been avoided, but for graver situations.
d10-6 All reviews have to be posted during the two week periode. All reviews has to be in by midnight RPGeek time. The review has to be through geekmod before the deadline. So everyone should try to do a bit of geekmodding on the day of the deadline.
d10-7 All reviews can be for any kind of entry in the RPGG database, the review can't have been published anywhere else before it is posted on the geek and it can't be a video review. Periodicals and issues may be reviewed, but not individual articles.
d10-8 The winner gets 2/3 of the pot, the one who has earned the most thumbs for his reviews gets 1/3.
d10-9 At any time when only one participant meets the deadline, and no one has called a vacation, the posting player is declared the winner. That means only the vacation lifeline can get you out of losing.
d10-0 If a deadline passes and no one posts, the prize goes to the banker, all remaining players gets a freebie.

If anyone wants to join, just send me two gold and what kind of connection you want to your item on the geeklist. Since the first deadline is January 14th, anyone can join before this date. So, while the competition starts on the January 1st, people can join until the 14th.

The list below tracks all the participants, how many lifelines they have and all reviews they have posted.

I remain impartial banker and arbiter, but the creator of this competition is:
Steve Donohue
United States
Allen Park

The pot at the moment is two gold from every contested. I have donated 245.13 bag, Shanya has donated 10 bag, Eric Aldrich has donated 10 bag, Lowell has donated 50 bag, Kwakkie has donated 35 bag, Eric Dodd has donated 10 bag, Chaz Donnell has donated 23.22 bag, MJ Harnish has donated 5bag, Matthew Taylor has donated 50 bag and Hida Mann has donate 200 bag. So the pot is large and growing.

In addition if you are a new user who does not have the 2gg needed to enter, Dave Bernazzani (aka wavemotion) has said he will gladly sponsor your entry into the contest.

I am also glad to announce that anyone who joins, and posts at least one review, gets this exclusive microbadge: mb

Upcoming:
Deadline 42: Between April 14th and April 20th
Deadline 43: Between April21st and April 27th
Deadline 44: Between April 28th and May 4th

Would-be social director of RPGG, Hida Mann has made a splash since his debut last year. Best known for his reviews of every item for L5R 3rd edition, he is a notorious family man and could easily miss a week here or there due to all the other balls he keeps in the air.

Opening odds: 2-1

If this was a blustering competition our resident Aussie would win hands down. Unfortunately this competition calls for cogent thought, writing skills, and a hint of dedication.

I'd put his over/under at period 34.

There's no denying that the Crab is a good reviewer as long as it's about L5R 4th Ed. Unfortunately they aren't producing weekly releases. Having summers off is a slight advantage for him but soon he'll be off to try some Shiraz or other and will forget to write his review.

Corrected Odds: 98-1

Reviews:
1st deadline: The Short Version? Buy this book!
2nd deadline: The Short Version? You only need this if you love Femforce, Superhero games, Sexism, or some combination of those three.
3rd deadline: The Short Version? If you like crunch and want rules for fighting flair, this is a great book!
4th deadline: The Short Version? Better for completists and AC Comics fans than the average gamer.
5th deadline: The Short Version? Buy on sight.
6th deadline: The Short Version? Long on Character creation, short on everything else.
7th deadline: The Short Version? Horrible.
8th deadline: The Short Version? Railroading at its finest!
9th deadline: The Short Version? Your players will hate you.
10th deadline: The Short Version? Great resource for Greek history and culture in a gaming context.
11th deadline: The Short Version? Pretty good reference for physical characters.
12th deadline: The Short Version? If you think there should be more to healing than restoring lost hit points, this is a great resource.
13th deadline: The Short Version? A good reference if you want to roleplay the Crusades.
14th deadline: The Short Version? A capital idea well executed!
15th deadline: The Short Version? Turning spell jockeys into robot jox just doesn't do it for me.
16th deadline: The Short Version? Wait, I can kick a bullet better than I can sling one? I am SO in!
17th deadline: The Short Version? Good, but not what I was expecting.
18th deadline: The Short Version? You don't need a short version - with this supplement you have all the time you need.
19th deadline: The Short Version? This is a great supplement with some very cool ideas.
20th deadline: The Short Version? I normally hate psionics, but this book made me rethink that.
21st deadline: The Short Version? Short descriptions but a lot of great ideas.
22nd deadline: The Short Version? This book would benefit greatly if it had been shorter and more authoratative.
23rd deadline: The Short Version? Only worth it if you really, really need to play a transmuter (or don't have the original softcovers)
24th deadline: The Short Version? If you've run more than a few times, you probably don't need this book.
25th deadline: The Short Version? An interesting look at an alien society
26th deadline: The Short Version? if you wanted to know more about evil dwarves, this is the best place to look.
27th deadline: The Short Version? Lots of cool new spells for divine casters of all kinds
28th deadline: The Short Version? Collected arcane spells done right.
29th deadline: The Short Version? Sparsely illustrated compared to most monster books and a confusing series
30th deadline: The Short Version? Players vs. bugs in a Dwaven Mine
31st deadline: The Short Version? I love the Hero System, but it's not for everyone.
32nd deadline: The Short Version? Saying anything bad about this game is like TILTing at windmills
33rd deadline: The Short Version? This book manages to make Ogres look interesting.
34th deadline: The Short Version? An excellent attempt at personifying a truly alien mindset
35th deadline: The Short Version? A great look at a cold-blooded society with a tight bond.
36th deadline: The Short Version? Goblins are horribly misunderstood, but you should probably still kill them.
37th deadline: The Short Version? No wonder Barad never attends family reunions!
38th deadline: The Short Version? Despite the warning, this book is neither adult nor funny.
39th deadline: The Short Version? it's not as funny as it thinks it is, but it is an entertaining read and a pretty useful book.
40th deadline: The Short Version? Sadly somewhat less than titanic.
41st deadline: The Short Version? This book probably can't be dropped in without a little work, but I think it's worth the effort.
42nd deadline: The Short Version? This is one book you should definitely NOT judge by its cover.
43rd deadline: The Short Version? "Prepare yourself for an RPG encounter so intense it could conceivably change your political viewpoint"*
44th deadline: The Short Version: A reminder of why Gygax was the master.

Remaining life lines:
Freebie (but now you have to turn in three reviews before the next deadline).
Vacation (you have to do tell us about this before the deadline of the one you plan to miss).
Personal (only to be used if you feel the reason is sufficient).

A strange visitor from another world, when Donohue arrived on Earth, he found himself endowed with amazing review-writing powers far beyond those of mortal men. Unfortunately, he was also mutated into a strange, crotchety green creature and his would-be fans run screaming from him in the streets.

Vestige is wily, deceptive type, as shown by his representative image; you all think it's him as a kid, but in fact, it was taken two days ago. Using the old 'adult-who-looks-like-a-child-and-thus-must-be-innocent trick has gotten him far in the past, but he's up against some of the toughest reviewers in the world here and that stuff just won't fly.

35th deadline: A decent accessory, but probably not worth the money
36th deadline: A bit dated, but a nice addition to the Golarion setting
37th deadline: Practical maps for use at the table
38th deadline: Another nostalgic look back at a classic TSR module
39th deadline: A worthy, though at times confusing, follow-up to Pharaoh
40th deadline: A Hot Time Down in Old Mexico
41st deadline: This is what would have happen if Lovecraft and Hitchcock collaborated
42nd deadline: Something evil slumbers in the Subantarctic
43rd deadline: Before there was 'Raiders of the Lost Ark', there was this adventure
44th deadline: I've reviewed some of the best... C2 is one of the rest

Remaining life lines:
Freebie (but now you have to turn in three reviews before the next deadline).
Vacation (you have to do tell us about this before the deadline of the one you plan to miss).
Personal (only to be used if you feel the reason is sufficient).

Harnish. The mere word strikes fear into the hearts of review readers everywhere. Known for his extensive collection of Victorian pornography RPGs and his eagerness to tell others about them, he is a contestant to be feared and envied.

Oh, I'm not terribly worried about the lists being updated but rather just wanted to make sure it wasn't missed.

On other news, my review #26 is in mod and hopefully will have cleared by the end of the weekend.

Hrrrm, Eric appears to have slipped onto the list without any welcoming trash talk from Jaime "Hida Not The Mann" Lawrence.

How very remiss of Jaime. I hope Jaime's reviewing efforts in the contest will be as slapdash, because that means one less contestant to worry about.

Anyway, back to trash talking Eric. I've seen Eric's collection of golfing trophies and plus four golfing trousers... the guy is a serious competitor who takes no prisoners. Then again, he does have a weak spot, namely his love for strong drink mixed into his food, so hopefully he'll indulge heavily and miss a deadline. That's the best we can hope for I reckon.

Odds of 3-1 seem only fair.

Eric created one of the most innovative systems in Roleplaying history by analysing the competition and finding a need. As of Requiem, he's a star of stage and screen also. The man is an unstoppable juggernaut. Or at least, he would be, if he didn't periodically explode and require 2 weeks and a day to reincorporate himself.

Opening odds: 3-1

Interesting odds, though I am one of the three reviewers of the remaining 11 who have used one of their lifelines...

Yes, but two of the three of us used the "vacation" lifeline, which, ironically, could be the death of me this year.

Barad is a young up-and-comer in the world of reviewing. With a small but tight group of games in his corner, he's been working hard to take the 'Geek by storm this past year. His inexperience will be a telling factor here though as he goes up against some of the toughest reviewers in all of Geek history!

Opening odds: 4-1

Hey it's not my fault the GM first declares me dead even while I'm still talking to him... And then realises his mistake.

But I must say that I find that this bookie isn't really completely honest he is privilleged to some insiders information so he adjusted my odds based on that I think.

Pete is the vigilante of reviewing; despite considerable controversy over his entry, IR Commissioner Larsson had no choice but to allow Pete entry into the competition after losing a marathon 48 hour game of Rune. Pete is a worthy opponent whose downfall may be his addiction to attempting to sabotage the other entrants,

LOL - I have no RPG reviews, all of the are RPG Items - maybe that is it. If not, then yeah, blame it on Sol and his messing with the geek code ninja

For every fool with money, there is a long shot to put that money down on. Wavemotion is that long shot. He's kidding himself if he thinks he's got time for this and probably only signed up because Stelio's offering a Microbadge. Don't be fooled by his charm and winning smile; the sucker's a born loser and will be distracted by something shiny in the second week.

I am declaring my intent to use:

Vacation (you have to do tell us about this before the deadline of the one you plan to miss).

For the IR#16 period. Less a vacation and more a week of celebration for the 2 year anniversary followed by a week of downtime!

Well, IIRC three of them are free downloads, and a fourth has been OOP for a long time...

That beard is pretty intimidating.

And awesome. In a manly way. I give odds to 3-1 on Aleksander, which drop to 40-1 if he shaves.

That is to say, I hope that for however long I last, others will keep going and continue to add quality content to the site.

If by some bizarre turn of fate I manage to actually win, I will hoard all of the bag and mock you all. So let that be a warning! kiss

I'm still writing my latest review (should be done by Friday) but I wanted to share this nugget: in order to provide the best review possible for this particular item, I built a computer program to model it and performed a 1,000,000 run Monte Carlo simulation.

Anyone who names themselves after an ancient monster is clearly compensating for something - in this case, it's his woeful inability to review things. All of you can adopt the nickname 'Beowulf', because you'll totally destroy him.

Unless, of course, he's named after the comics character. Then we're hosed.

A novice reviewer here on RPGG. Chaz has only reviewed fantasy games despite his microbadges telling us that he likes Science Fiction. Such confusion bodes poorly for a reviewer, but frankly, makes him look like a natural in this pack of maniacs.

As much as I regret it and hate to say it, I won't be able to continue to participate. Some things have come up in my life that, while not life threatening by any means, require me to spend more time and attention elsewhere which is going to prevent me from contributing as much or as often as I had hoped for the foreseeable future.

I still hope to continue to enjoy the wonderful reviews everyone else have been putting together and occasionally will bump into my fellow 'geeks on the forums and discussion lists. Look forward to congratulating the eventual winner in a few years.

Despite the crippling handicap of being a plush toy, Matt is a battler with a heart of gold. Using his mighty paws to smash his keyboard day in and day out, like a room full of monkeys at typewriters he occasionally gets lucky and produces an astounding review. Definitely the people's champion in this contest.

Opening odds: 4-1

Brum is an old hand when it comes to RPGG, a gentleman of an age gone by with a soft nature that makes him invaluable in the community. Unfortnately, it also makes him weak. Weak, weak, weak! The competition will trample him, chew on his flesh and spit out the bones! Bet on him only if you are heir to Uncle Moneybags' fortune.

Many have made the mistake of thinking Shanya is just another pretty face and have subsequently been stunned by the sharp string of rules knowledge and game design that subsequently issued forth from her. Only the foolish would underestimate her here - fortunately for her, that's most of her opposition.

Relatively new to the world of RPGG, Adam hails from a land of bitter cold and sweet syrup. These two opposing forces combine within him to give him a highly balanced view and great clarity when it comes to reviewing. The kid has talent, but does he have the staying power to stick with the big dogs of RPGG?
