Podcast: ANIMALCAST
Episode: Animalcast Episode 26 ( 26.52 MB / 57:55)
In Episode 26, the guys try to talk about Heroscape, the miniature-style wargame by Hasbro. But they get sidetracked by a lot of side issues. First they offer some expensive comics in return to anyone that can provide a good, original theme song. They talk about Kyle's bad haircut and what not to tell your barber. Mike goes on about how much he loves Allen Varney and Paranoia XP. Mike and Kyle also talk about Paizo Publishing's Critical Hit Deck, and their new Pathfinder books for Dungeons and Dragons 3.5. Kyle gets nearly orgasmic reviewing Paizo's current Rise of the Runelords adventure arc. Finally the guys get around to talking about the subject at hand. Both Mike and Kyle have been playing Heroscape for many years with their kids and have loved the game since it first came out. The guys talk about the basics of the game, the low cost of getting into it, the ease of rules, and epic battles they have waged. They discuss the merits of having Snake Warriors fighting Futuristic Robot Warriors fighting the Hulk and Spiderman. Kyle promises in the show to link to some sample maps from the animalball forums, but when typing up the show notes decides it is just too much trouble. Just kidding.

Episode: Editorial 2 - Scare the Player, Save the Game ( 5.76 MB / 20:08)
Since were moving the release date to every other Sunday (starting this Sunday) I wanted to still get something out on our normal release date to ease the transition.

The change is being made so we can be more responsive to the audience, but not sacrifice quality.

So, I'm taking the opportunity to talk about the page and a half in dragon magazine that defined gaming for me.  It's from Oct 1990, Dragon issue 162.  The article was by Bruce Nesmith, and it was 'the Game Wizards'.  You can find a little more about it here.

Comments and feedback are always welcome, feel free to discus it here.

Enjoy.

Episode: Animalcast Episode 25 ( 29.77 MB / 65:00)
In Episode 25, the guys answer more viewer mail.  But first, Mike has a surprise guest jump on the microphone for an impromptu interview.  Simply put, it is the biggest name guest on the show yet.  The guys answer questions related to the ongoing war between ninjas and pirates, their favorite Dungeons and Dragons settings, the new Pathfinder series from Paizo Publishing and technical issues asked by a loyal listener.  Listener Daki poses a new game which the guys stumble through, but then request help from the listening audience.  They have a request related to their Ron Weasley for Muggle President 2008 prank, and in response to another listener questions they speculate on Dungeons and Dragons 4.0.  And finally, Kyle responds to the vicious attacks on him from the Reel Horror Podcast.

Fraser sold another story, this time to Black Gate. Black Gate is a major market, and one that Fraser has been trying to crack since 2000.

With Christina (his daughter) taking up so much of his time, and wanting to focus on his fiction writing, Fraser is putting Sword's Edge Publishing on hiatus. The products will remain available at Your Games Now and Steve Jackson Games' e23. Support SEP and support this podcast.

The deal for Mundus Novit: the Changed World fell through as Silven Publishing closed up shop, but Fraser is polishing it up and seeing about a partnership with another publisher to get it out.

Episode: Episode 12 - Alignment ( 21.56 MB / 75:21)
A lot of us like to play the hero.  You know, the good guy, the one how goes to the creatures house, kicks in their door, stab them in the head and takes all their stuff.  Somehow, when put like that it doesn't sound good, and lawful is probably in some serious doubt too.  But that's still what we stick on our character sheets.  And while individually we'll continue see our own characters in the pure and divine light of always being right, together we can't seem to agree on exactly what alignment batman is.  Dungeons and Dragons the game that gave the game concept to us some 30 odd years ago can't even decide on what the aligments mean, or how many there should be, since that seems to change with each eddition.  In the end, Good vs. evil may just be a very simple story that we can all relate to, but no one can define.

So, today, we'll try to help clarify things, or atleast, move the water around a little bit.

Noteworthy links from the show:

Engrish

For a short while we were on the Barack Obama video site because of some comments made in episode 9.  Unfortunately, they're down now.  But Google Cache caught them.

When talking about good, evil and D&D it's hard to avoid Chick Tracts and Dark Dungeons.

Finally we encourage everyone to go learn about H.P. Lovecraft.  It's October.  It just seems right.

Again, all of this was meant as a high level overview.  If you have specific questions or comments, hop on by the forums and let us know what you think of this episode.
