I'm a big fan of games like Legend of the Five Rings (4th Edition), Spycraft, HackMaster (5th Edition - Basic & Advanced) and anything else Science Fiction or Comedy-themed. I'm a multi-domain Geek and play a bit of everything, but RPGs are where my heart's at.

I'm a big fan of Savage Worlds and games in the Star Wars and Warhammer 40,000 universes. My gaming has typically been on various Play-by-Forum sites, but I've started to game with real pens and paper more in the past few years. I'm also a multi-domain Geek, but something about the dice always keeps me coming back to RPGs.

I'm mostly a fantasy gamer but I've dabbled a bit in a lot of older systems and a few newer ones. My favorites are Deadlands, Champions, and all things Dungeons & Dragons before 4th edition. I don't do much with video games, but I have a decent boardgame collection.

I've been a huge RPG ferret since I started in 1981. Most of my experience has been as a D&D player, but I do go behind the screen from time to time. My favorite RPG is Pendragon, but other candidates change year to year or even day to day. I also have a decent board game and video game collection, but RPGs are my true love.

I've been a D&D player since the early 90s, through AD&D 2nd Ed, 3rd Ed, and v.3.5. I've been a fan of Paizo since they started publishing Dragon and Dungeon magazines, and I now follow all things Pathfinder. This includes Pathfinder Society Organized Play, and to an increasing degree, third parties releasing Pathfinder Compatible products.

I grew up on red box D&D which I'm still very fond of. After years without roleplaying I've returned to the hobby, and now mostly play story games like InSpectres and Fiasco. I like single malt whisky, and my cat is called Olaf.

I cut my teeth on Advanced Dungeons & Dragons (2nd Edition) like many people. This started my voracious obssession with all things RPG which, until a couple of months ago, managed to hide away a bit. I played a lot of Middle-earth Role Playing (1st & 2nd Editions) and Star Wars (WEG 2nd Edition). These days, though, I've mostly been running my group through the latter and Mutants & Masterminds (2nd Edition). I'm the guy who'll be keeping an eye on Green Ronin Publishing, Wizards of the Coast, and Steve Jackson Games. Looking forward to getting news out to all you crazy cats on a regular basis!

So, that's the team. If you hear anything exciting and want to help us out, let one of us know about it. Otherwise, on with the news!

Cool beans!

Did you guys decide to forgo the official news module (ala BGG)? Blogs are, generally, less visible by most new folks coming to the site (not sure if the module is on by default - but it's not in a prime spot in any event). Also, blogs aren't quite the same as threads - we can't move them into their constituent RPG or RPG Items. Lastly, we may clog up the blog interface if it's done here. Did you talk to Aldie about this?

Make sure at least one of you (paz?) subscribes to all things Paizo and Pathfinder (twitter, blogs, facebook as well as feeds for the principals: Lisa Stevens, James Jacobs and Jason Buhlman). Add the Know Direction podcast as well. We almost had a disaster by leaving the amazing Pathfinder Beginners Box off the 2011 Holiday List which would have been an embarrassment to RPG Geek. You don't have to like them, but Paizo is now one of the cornerstones of our hobby and I'd hope their news will hit here fast It also doesn't look like there is any coverage for WotC and D&D 4e, Essentials and the upcoming 5e.

I think Hida's been doing the admin side so far, but anything that can be done to make this 'official' (e.g. using the new module) is a good thing IMHO.

Posting from my android, so excuse the formatting.

We made a conscious decision to use the blog format and to avoid making this an official geek project at this stage. Our team is still finding its feet and working out exactly what shape we want things to take, so at this point we're not looking to be a big feature. I doubt that clogging the module will be a serious concern either. Aldie said he was excited to see what we come up with. It won't be hard for us to get things off the ground in this format, then we can think about options for the future.

Paz has eyes on paizo and wizards are on our 'someone has to do it' list, so they'll get covered.
I think your concern about the box thing is a bit overdramatised here too - if you play pathfinder, you probably don't need a beginner box and if not, we have plenty of beginner options. Describing Steve's hard work as a nigh-disaster is a bit rough...

Give us a while to get on our feet, we'll be great before you know it.

The new design has an specific sets of blog that we can add to the front page by default and also visible on the nav, if this becomes the official RPGG News blog, I will add it on a prime spot to the nav.

The News module isn't available for RPGG (neither is RSP and some other modules). But I think it's probably for the best if the news feed grows up in the Blog module first and then gets promoted to the big time News module if / when you and Aldie think it's ready.

I hope I didn't come off as criticizing Steve's work - it is appreciated as always. However, the oversight of what is now the most accessible entry point to our hobby from the company that carries our hobby's banner as the worlds best selling game would have been embarrassing. The box set is available in gamestores, bookstores, novelty shops, Amazon and soon Toys-Backwards-R-Us. There is no other entry point as accessible (and I'm not talking playability). It will soon be translated to a number of languages to give it world-wide appeal. The sets are selling fast at the local stores - I'm giving them as gifts and we've got some brand new role-players as a result. Given the care and attention the box set got from Paizo, it may also be the most significant starter set since the venerable Red Box from 1983.

And yes, I can be overly dramatic

If you are interested in news from just a select number of games, you will get subscription notices from blog entries that tag your games of choice. So if you subscribe to Fiasco and a news blog mentions Fiasco (and properly tags it), you'll get the subscription notice.

My Geek-fu is weak...I didn't see a "News" module on the layout choices, is there something special I must do? Or does it just take a while to propagate through the system?

And does this mean the News posts won't show up directly in the blog section? Otherwise it seems they may take it over....

These are great so far, but one comment I have after just a couple days:

Eric does something I really appreciate which is to break his pieces into roughly one of three types of postings:

1 - A major interview, designer diary, or in-depth industry piece
2 - Major update on products of one theme (usually all from the same publisher), particularly when the major players make big announcements about a whole set of products
3 - Assorted other news update which gathers together tidbits from multiple publishers into one post.

The huge advantage to all this is that you generally get one or two postings per day, and a lot of information all in one place.

So, my suggestion is to try to take content like has been on the multiple daily postings thus far and format it so that it all reads as "Today's news update".

I realize this suggestion may be difficult to implement with so many editors, but thought I'd throw it out there to think about. Maybe there is a way to draft what should go in the next update in some forum you can all share and keep adding to it until a particular time when it is posted and a new update started.

Obviously, take this with a grain of salt, just an initial reaction from an excited fan.

My Geek-fu is weak...I didn't see a "News" module on the layout choices, is there something special I must do? Or does it just take a while to propagate through the system?

I couldn't find it either and finally reset to base and there is was. Of course, everything else was gone.

Yeah. Didn't see it at first when I clicked "Edit Front Page". I had to "reset to defaults" before I saw the RPGG News module.

I like this idea and we do indeed have a draft capability. Co-ordinating the different timezones is probably the difficult part: Jaime and I are asleep when the others are posting and vice versa.

It is the eventual intention, guys - I think the team is just excited with the first few days. We'll slow it down and condense for you.

Yep, I have a bunch of stuff in draft mode that I will trickle out when the initial flood dries up.
